Question about copyright ownership of images used on this page

Several images used on this page appear to be photos of printouts of company presentations. For example, the images titled "The working principal of an ETC" and "Turbo generator cross section" contain labelled versions of the CAD renderings titled "ETC 1000 single system set-up" and "ETC 1000 system (cutaway)" available in the Media Centre page of the Bowman Power Group website (https://www.bowmanpower.com/about-us/media-centre/)

Per the metadata, the photos were taken on an iPhone at The Mill in Shawford, home of Rooster Marketing and a little under half an hour's drive from Bowman Power Group in Southampton. Rooster Marketing (as Rooster Digital Ltd.) is the registered owner of the IP address 194.73.218.250, which first edited this page 28 minutes after user Bowmanpower created it.

As there appears to be a relationship between Bowman Power Group and Rooster Marketing, would it be more appropriate for Bowman to provide original images for use on this page, rather than for another party to upload photos of their documents?

• Yes, but our question is whether we accept WP:COI and somewhat promotional content, rather than schooling them in how to do it better. They can release whichever images they like onto Commons, if they don't want to use the best (or to freely release the best), then that's their call.

What we really need here is time to review the whole article, see if it passes our basic rules for notability and against self-promotion. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:15, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

• Agreed, but my question was more about ownership of the copyright. If I take a photo of a device in the field, I can freely upload that photo wherever I like. However, if I take and upload a photo of the manufacturer's documentation of that device, am I not infringing the copyright in the document by reproducing it? That was the point I wanted to clarify.

Maybe Rooster had permission to copy the Bowman documents, I'm not accusing them of copyright infringement. If I had hired them I'd question their judgement but as you said that's not our job here. Taipei 1A1 (talk) 16:52, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

• Under general EU copyright, this would (if our assumptions are correct) fall straight under "work for hire" because a digital agency is acting on behalf of the client. That's not great on WP, because when such questions come up a few years in the future, they're usually deleted immediately by one of the "delete first, delete some more afterwards" admins.
