Factual Accuracy Disputed
I would be curious to know what is disputed about my recent changes to the article.
I agree that there are significant factual inaccuracies in the article which is what I am in the process of fixing. (For example, the obvious inaccuracy that "Nomination as a candidate requires one of the following" when clearly all requirements must be met, not just one. I will get to fixing the other states in due course.) There are also significant omissions in the form of question marks in some of the tables. (Although I would be looking to rejig the tables entirely for clarity and consistency as I go through things more comprehensively.)
I am happy not to quibble about the bicameral/unicameral distinction, although I believe that it is worth making the upper/lower house distinction as this is common usage. I must say that in my view much of the article is heavily jargonistic and lacking in accessibility for the average reader. I do not believe that removing some of the jargon has undermined accuracy but I am happy to be corrected--it's a big job to bring this one up to date and there's no doubt that I’ll miss something here and there.
I stand corrected on the "Legislative Assembly"/"House of Assembly" distinction. I somehow missed that South Australia was an exception to what is otherwise the rule.
All the changes have been made following extensive cross-checking of source material, particularly candidates handbooks and legislation. In many case phrasing is closely paraphrased directly from these documents. I am happy to provide direct sources to the disputed passages on request.
I am somewhat curious about the level of interest my amendments seem to have provoked, but I certainly welcome any assistance to bring the entire article up to date. Debate 05:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- It is "House of Assembly" in Tasmania as well as South Australia. Your changes haven't provoked any particular level of interest; it is just monitored by a number of Australian editors. Could you highlight any un-necessary jargon so I can get an understanding of what you're referring to?
- With regards to improving this article, I have floated a proposal with Ambi to rename it to Electoral systems in Australia and convert it to summary style. --cj | talk 05:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
