La Tuta edit

Please remove the Spanish text regarding the case of 'La Tuta' under the Biography-header and replace with an actual biographical text. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.217.144.181 (talk) 20:03, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

incomplete job very custionable his leadership of the teachers union, especially since Mexico occupies the last place in terms of basic education, this lady was more concerned about political scandals that organizes it for doing their job, not uncommon in Mexico.--200.66.106.59 (talk) 03:18, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request of semi protection of this page. edit

I make a request to protect this page, because there is an unusual activity IP addresses trying to re-add phrases about the ugliness of the teacher leader. I do not represent anyone in the SNTE, but the content should remain neutral, and clearly that is not happening.

Also, I will add that section tends to be semi-vandalized by the fact that that is referenced by a Mexican newspaper with national circulation (El Universal) (http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/870539.html) and many people is trying to add more things without citations or simply to mock the teacher union leader. Remember that this is a biography page, not a random board. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crow-watcher (talkcontribs) 19:12, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. I agree. Please add a lock to this page. ComputerJA (talk) 19:55, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. I agree. At least temporarily as we can expect traffic to this page to rocket due to current events. Prevent any changes temporarily. 87.194.203.80 (talk) 21:08, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Protection requested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection#Elba_Esther_Gordillo . (unrelated to the below request from several months ago). Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 02:28, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Protection request had already been made yesterday, current view on the RFPP page is that vandalism here has not reached the level required to protect the page. Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 02:50, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I made that request, since I figured it was going to be needed. I left a note at WP:RPP clarifying why the bot detected a recent decline. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 02:54, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Organized crime charges edit

I saw a revert that mentioned it, so I thought I'd drive by and drop this and this, among others. Apparently they did charge her with that (delincuencia organizada), which is why she didn't make bail (fianza). But we do need sources for everything, obviously. This is still a BLP. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 04:51, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree with keeping it cautious. I had sourced it with a Mexican reference in Spanish as the charges were anounced. I just added one in English by the BBC. Cheers, BatteryIncluded (talk) 04:54, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is a new charge I hadn't seen, and should have been referenced when it was added. However, reading through that (and reading the actual charge), I'm not sure it's been translated correctly. Strictly speaking, what's charged as "delincuencia organizada" is closer to what we call conspiracy than what we call organized crime. She's alleged to have run a conspiracy to drain SNTE's funds, but that's different than Whitey Bulger running a protection racket. here indicates "La delincuencia organizada consiste en que más de tres personas hagan una serie de operaciones ilícitas y que se organicen para hacerlo" [...] - translated loosely, "organized crime consists of three or more persons organized to commit a series of illicit acts." But I'm not a lawyer, and the distinction between organized crime, conspiracy and business as normal in Mexico is tenuous at best. Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 05:09, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
should have been referenced when it was added.
Again: I added and referenced the "organized crime" charge yesterday: [1]. -BatteryIncluded (talk) 05:20, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure that "conspiracy" even exists in the Mexican penal code. In fact I don't know that it exists in any of the countries that implement some form of the Napoleonic Code. I believe the closest thing to "delincuencia organizada" would be racketeering, but I'm not 100% sure. Needless to say, I'm hardly an expert in US or Mexican law. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 05:29, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I would not change it, as you would be hard pressed to justify it in legal terms. Besides, I believe that raketeering is mostly a "protection" business. Cheers, BatteryIncluded (talk) 05:38, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'll admit, I missed the infobox addition yesterday. All I saw was the latest in a series of blind additions to the summary, with nothing in the corresponding detail article (under "Arrest"), which is where I would have expected such a change. Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 05:31, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Thank you for keeping me in line. BatteryIncluded (talk) 05:37, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dubious Claim edit

The first paragraph states that Gordillo's grandson is Luis Castro Obregon, who is the leader of the Partidad Nueva Alianza. It's extremely unlikely that the 72 year old Gordillo has a 53 year old grandson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6000:EB42:EC00:21CA:7696:272D:E60 (talk) 17:10, 11 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
