Awards section

Can somebody help me fix the ribbons? I tried to copy the corresponding section in the Colin Powell#Medals and ribbons article. --Znuddel (talk) 10:52, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Awards, again

The Foreign Decorations sub-section lists an award of the US Presidential Unit Citation. With that being a unit citation, is this correct? And if so, does anyone know why it was awarded to Kristoffersen personally? Or was it some other award? Xyl 54 (talk) 23:56, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

What section on Enduring Freedom? There isn't one. And how does an oblique reference to some military operation answer the question? Kristoffersen is an individual, and a unit citation (as the name implies) is awarded to a military unit. So the question still stands; is this correct? Xyl 54 (talk) 16:31, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

It's described in this section: Presidential Unit Citation (United States)#Operation Enduring Freedom. And as you can see from his NATO CV he is credited with the award, since he's unit was part of Task Force K-BAR. So yes, it's correct. --Znuddel (talk) 16:44, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

@Znuddel:: OK, so the Enduring Freedom article says the PUC was awarded to Task Force K-Bar and, by extension, to Norway’s FSK, HJK and MJK units (which the MJK article mentions); there’s nothing there about an individual award to Kristoffersen. Which is what I would expect, it being a unit citation. I can well imagine that Kristoffersen picked the thing up, being the leader of the unit, but that isn’t the same as being awarded personally, is it. And having it listed here as a personal award, (and having Kristoffersen included in the PUC category) is just misleading. Xyl 54 (talk) 22:29, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

To clarify, all persons in a unit during a unit award's time period are authorized to wear that award for the remainder of their careers. It is pretty much the same as an individual award; unit awards are included with individual awards on discharge papers (they are on mine). When wearing ribbons, all awards are worn together. When wearing medals instead of ribbons, the medals are on the left side and unit awards are on the right side. I believe it is correct to include unit awards if listing most or all of an individual's awards. RobDuch (talk·contribs) 23:06, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

<insert> To clarify the clarification of the clarification, US Air Force practice is that both individual and unit award ribbons are worn on the left side. In another variation, when I was stationed at Tempelhof Central Airport in the late 1960s, the Gloucestershire Regiment formed part of the British Brigade in Berlin. The regiment was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for action in Korea and wore a cloth patch depicting the ribbon on the sleeve of their uniforms. --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:44, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you, both, for the clarifications; it makes more sense now. However, I still feel it is misleading to have Kristoffersen listed in the PUC category as an individual (it’s what brought me here in the first place) and to not have any explanation on the page, so if there are no objections I should like to add a footnote to the award entry, and to remove the category (the unit should be there already, so technically it is a repetition) Xyl 54 (talk) 22:31, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
