Article improvements edit

I have made initial efforts to improve the article by adding narration, title segments, and a new modified photo. More improvements and narration expansions are needed. Pierrepont's prosecution of the Whiskey Ring, in my opinion, is extremely under rated by historians. Cmguy777 (talk) 19:49, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Third Sentence edit

"During the American Civil War, Pierrepont was a loyal Democrat who supported President Abraham Lincoln." This sentence is contradictory. The page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyalty states: "Loyalty is faithfulness or a devotion to a person, country, group, or cause." If Pierrepont was a "loyal Democrat" during the American Civil War, wouldn't he have supported the Democratic candidate George B. McClellan, and not Republican Abraham Lincoln in the election of 1864? He may have been a Democrat, but supporting Abraham Lincoln would have made him a "War Democrat," something like Lincoln's equivalent to the "Reagan Democrat"-- a Democrat voting for a Republican candidate despite party affiliation. That is the very opposite of party loyalty. I'm going to change the wording, if you object, please tell me why here, as opposed to simply reverting the edit.

Loyal means loyalty to the Union. Pierrepont did not join the Confederacy. Cmguy777 (talk) 16:25, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Surratt Trial edit

It is incorrect that John H. Surratt was tried before a military commission. The trial was held in the Criminal Court for the District of Columbia. [1] James Galloway (talk) 17:25, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
