Deletion of factual material edit
On January 28, 2013 factual information I contributed concerning Professor Langille's public position on a SFX faculty strike was deleted as "derogatory". Professor Langille's decision to cross the picket lines may have been controversial, but it is a fact just the same. On January 28, the first day of the strike, he defended his decision during a six minute interview on the CBC Radio program Maritime Noon broadcast from Halifax. I am not reinstating my contribution, however, at this time because the lead section is so skimpy that the controversy over the strike would occupy too much space. The lead section badly needs additional information about such facets of Professor Langille's life as his place of birth, education, his lengthy teaching career and more detail about his extensive writings and scholarly research. The factual information that was deleted follows:
In January 2013, Langille crossed the picket lines when his union, the St. FX Association of University Teachers, went on strike after going eight months without a contract.[1] A few days before the strike, he vowed he would continue to teach classes. A news report quoted him as saying, “I may not have a contract with the university, but my course outline is my contract with students and by God I’ll respect it.”[2] Bwark (talk) 21:10, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- After conducting extensive research and adding much new information to this entry, I have restored previously deleted information about Professor Langille's position on the St. F.X. faculty strike. I have also added more information about Langille's views based on his interview with CBC Radio's Maritime Noon. This is factual material and is not "derogatory comment" as claimed, especially since Professor Langille himself was quite willing to speak out publicly against the strike. In fact, he thanked the CBC interviewer for following his side of the story. The strike information is relevant to Dr. Langille's career at the university and with my addition of much new information on his scholarly research and his advocacy on behalf of cultural heritage, it has been placed in a fuller context. It is now not out of proportion with the rest of this entry.Bwark (talk) 14:24, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
In light of the strike (begun January 28th) and high emotions on the part of all parties, it's probably best to include nothing related to Langille's actions/attitudes in regard to the strike in this article at least until the strike is done. It's not a *major* news story (Langille's part in the strike, that is) and I fear that, if anything is put on now, within a few hours the article'll be vandalised or reverted (again) etc. and we'll have this problem ad infinitum at least until the strike is over.
