Picking this one up as the last of the three -- expecting to start a review soon. Vaticidalprophet 13:51, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • During his tenure, he constructed a new residence for the Jesuits and scholastics -- the context given in the body, that the residence was inherited from a predecessor who constructed it without approval and that it made up most of his tenure, is IMO more interesting than reiterating religious affiliation.
  • He studied at St. Joseph's Preparatory School, doesn't need a comma.
  • as a member of its first class can specify 'graduating class' or 'cohort' to reduce ambiguity between "the literal first class they offered".
  • Assuming the "there" where he was ordained a priest was Woodstock? Rereading that sentence I just wrote produces an intriguing mental image.
    • I've clarified that he was ordained at Woodstock. Ergo Sum 20:06, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • significant debt, which had accrued during the Civil War also doesn't need the comma, but I have some queries about this. Did the debt originate during the war or just compound during it? Was it directly war-related? If it didn't originate then, when did it? Do we know how bad it was, and how much he was able to pay off (the description is very vague)?
    • The source doesn't go into a lot of detail but it seems to suggest that it accrued due to the war. How exactly, I am not sure. Ergo Sum 20:06, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • and was succeeded by I'd write "when he was succeeded by", but not sure how much this seeming a little awkward to my ear means it actually is vs. individual writing style differences.
  • To clarify, was Gonzaga a high school at the time or did it become one? (Is this distinction anachronistic?)
    • It was named Gonzaga College at the time. Whether one would call it a high school or a college in the way that the terms are understood today is a little unclear. In the Jesuit tradition, I believe the school primarily enrolled middle and high school students but did grant bachelor's degrees as well. At this time and especially before, the Jesuit schools did not break down high school-college lines, but more so along "collegiate" and graduate level lines. Ergo Sum 20:09, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Any interesting details about why Campbell was dissatisfied with O'Kane?
    • I'm not sure yet. The O'Kane article is forthcoming. Either way, I'm sure the reasons would be better discussed there than in this article. Ergo Sum 20:11, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Do we know why he didn't want the football team to play outside the town? What sort of decision was it at the time to disband a school's football team -- would it have, for instance, negative financial implications?
    • I wish I knew because it would make a very interesting factoid, but the source does not say. Ergo Sum 20:20, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • If consultor is being used in its term-of-art sense, that article doesn't clarify its use in a Jesuit context especially well (to a non-expert reader, at least). I glossed this as 'consultant' at a first skim before looking closer.
    • The third bullet point in that article seems to explain how the role works in the Jesuit context. I've added a footnote explaining this. Ergo Sum 20:20, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Why did he not wish to borrow from banks? Lending conditions, interest, personal beliefs, etc?
    • Also not sure. I imagine the provincial superior wanted lending to be done within Jesuit institutions. Ergo Sum 20:23, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Use of the {{inflation}} template on the costs might be appreciated.
  • Was his death expected or unexpected? Poor health points in one direction, but the college needing to appoint a vice regent sounds to me like they hadn't anticipated it.
    • What's there now is all I've been able to glean from the source. Ergo Sum 20:23, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Over to you. I recognize some of these might have sourcing problems/not have come up, and kept that in mind while reading, but they stood out from a breadth perspective. Overall good work on this article suite, though (as expected!). Vaticidalprophet 22:05, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Vaticidalprophet: Thank you for another review. Ergo Sum 20:24, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
You're very welcome! I'll hopefully be able to finish the third in the next couple days. I still have unresolved questions, but I understand sources are a bit of a pain. Vaticidalprophet 20:26, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
