Work in progress

Consider this article as work in progress, please. There is a lot to do here:

  • The leader is complete crap. Lots of POV, no summary of the total education scene, very bad writing, no citation... Complete rework underway.
  • The history section is nothing but a commentary of POV, and it reads like a load of original research.
  • The current situation again has little description of the current situation, and a lot of POV, mostly reading like a Ministry of Education press handout.
  • The sections on education system and education management are way too long, and loosely structured, leading towards a hell of wrong weightage gone into both.
  • There is little statistics and even less verifiability of whatever statistics is there.
  • No in-line citation.

Wow! That felt good, especially considering that I put the crap into the article, and I still consider it to be significant improvement from what was. Now, what I can suggest to develop this article are:

  • There is a lot of resources at bottom of the article, an interested editor may check them out, and rewrite the article with help from these resources.
  • In doing that Education in India, Education in England, and Education in the United States may be used as inspirations in developing this article.
  • At any point the current text should not be taken as inviolate, as it lies there to serve as a departure point only.

Definitely I will try to follow my own suggestions and meet my own criticism on the article as much as I can. But, I don't think my poor soul can bear the burden alone. I posted a request to many, including related Wikiprojects, but so far no one ventured to lend a hand yet (got some good suggestions, though). Please, help. Aditya Kabir 17:46, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Infobox

The education infobox should add value to this article. Please try to put this in the main page once most of the missing fields can be completed with proper reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Armanaziz (talkcontribs)

A few points

Hello, I made a few minor changes to the article. Hopefully you will agree they were beneficial or at least mostly so. I also embedded a few hidden comments/questions in the lead. I will try to do some more work here as I have time. Johntex\talk 06:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

More images?

Should I add images of different leading educational institutions of Bangladesh in the article? I don't want to be bold and add only to generate wrath from others :) Arman Aziz 02:06, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Some pictures would be very nice. Right now this article looks quite barren. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:33, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Merger Proposal

I have suggested that National Curriculum and Textbook Board be merged into this article. My reasoning is:

  • The Textbook Board article is a one-line stub and is unlikely to be expanded;
  • All the information in the Textbook Board article is already in "Education in Bangladesh"; and
  • Education in Bangladesh is not so long that there is a need to break it up into separate articles.

Having details about the textbook Board in this article also helps readers find what they are looking for about Bangladesh education in one page. I would welcome anyone else's views. Euryalus (talk) 11:17, 10 December 2007 (UTC) unlikely to ever be more than a one-line stub.

I haev expanded the article beyond the one line stub, and I believe that, given attention, it has the potential to grow way beyond that. A lot of reforms, controversies, policies and failures make for the story of the Textbook Board. Quite a saga. I'll see what I can do. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 19:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Looks great! I withdraw my merge suggestion. Euryalus (talk) 20:12, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Education System Represented Here is Not Right

In Bangladesh, Education System, is divided into 5 basic categories. [1] General Education System. [2] Madrasah Education System. [3] Technical - Vocational Education System. [4] Professional Education System. [5] Other Education Systems. This info should be the FIRST info there, but its not there ! All is see, mostly the information related to "General Education System". How can this article be a Neutral article when its not presenting stuff the right way ? I see 1 or 2 sentence of "vocational" education, which is more known as "Technical & Vocational" than only "Vocational", in gov documents it is identified as "Technical" than "Vocational, or written as "Technical - Vocational". --Tariq. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.137.237.85 (talk) 09:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I have just added these and further info. For more info see this bangladesh government's BANBEIS dept's webpage. --Tariq. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.137.237.85 (talk) 11:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Copyedit - March 2009

I found one section that needed to be edited slightly. While I don't see any further immediate changes, I'm still not comfortable with the style of the article, especially in some of the later sections. . --Sigma 7 (talk) 03:24, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Further copyedit: April 2009. I found a few more things (prepositions, grammar, word choice, a couple of spelling errors). I think what is wrong with the article is beyond copy editing (for example, sections need to be expanded). The concerns, above, on this talk page need to be addressed. But, as this has undergone two sets of copyedits, I am going to take the tag off. If more is needed, contact one of us on our talk pages.Levalley (talk) 21:48, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Levelley - that looks a lot better now! My copyedit was incomplete; I stopped at the Pre-primary and primary education subheading. I am no expert on the subject and was editing for clarity, adding and correcting only a few facts that I stumbled across in related articles and the works they cite. It seems from the text that others gave up at a similar point, so anyone else wishing to copy-edit would do most good by continuing downwards from where we left off. Certes (talk) 12:14, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Concerns

I am moving this paragraph to the 'concerns' section. Also, this paragraph is written poorly.

The educational system of Bangladesh faces several problems. In the past, Bangladesh education was primarily a British-controlled, upper-class affair with all courses given in English and very little being done for the common people. The Bangladesh education board has taken steps to leave such practices in the past and is looking forward to education as a way to provide a somewhat poverty-stricken nation with a brighter future. Bangladesh has one of the lowest literacy rates in South Asia. One study found a 15.5% primary school teacher absence rate.

--Sabih 11:36, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Education Commissions

I have added a paragraph about the education Commissions of Bangladesh. But they can have a separate section with detailed discussion of recommendations and their implementation. What do you think about it? --Sabih 11:42, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

What happened?

Why has the article degenerated so much? Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:54, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Improvement: potential sources

Bangladesh-related articles often lean heavily on the Library of Congress Country Studies and on Banglapedia, although the former are somewhat dated, and the latter goes into more historical detail than would be desirable here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Worldbruce (talkcontribs) 23:26, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Reports

"Tertiary education in General Education System"

The introduction to the section "Education system" states that there are three main systems: General, Madrasah, and Technical-Vocational.
However, that section is divided into only two sub-sections: "Tertiary education in Madrasah Education System" and "Tertiary education in Technical Education System".

Wouldn't it be appropriate to have a third sub-section entitled "Tertiary education in General Education System", given that three systems have been introduced? Is there some compelling reason to ignore "Tertiary education in General Education System"? Thank you for your attention. Akhooha (talk) 17:30, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Citations

Why are there so few citations in this article? It almost looks like original research. However, it is possible to find citations online for almost all the stuffs that are mentioned in this article. It looks like someone studied from reliable sites and then wrote different stuffs in this article without citing any of the sources. I would recommend everyone to find citations for most of the information written in this article and put the citations there with the information. This article is almost complete. We should focus on the citations for now. Asaduzzaman Khan Shahriar (talk) 06:04, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
