An inappropriate renaming. He was a Count, in Austria, and a viscount, in British system. We have the naming rule that the most senior title is used. Therefore I have to doubt the reasoning of those who made that move. Additionally, he happened to live and work in Austria, which should have indicated that Austrian titulary should not be overlooked in favor of British. What could have been motivation to this sort of "British imperialism", to dub all and sundry with british titles. Arrigo 22:25, 19 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
What Arrigo said - his comital title in Austria was likely superior to his vicomital title in Britain, but even more important, he was an Austrian and is known as "Count Taaffe," not "Viscount Taaffe". He should be at his German title. john k (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
