Contested deletion

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... The Edsa Shangri-La Hotel is a landmark hotel in the development of Manila and Philippines, one of the early 5-star hotels in a country, and city, rapidly developing.

I'm basing it on many other articles of this type on wikipedia, such as these below, except that I intend it to be far more well-researched, supported, and integrated to the site, and will soon add images/logos to support it from wikicommons.

I've carefully made sure that every statement is referenced and fact-checked against legitimate resources, 26 so far, and linked to other relevant pages across the site so that it matches all Wikipedia's standards. It is though, a work-in-progress so I appreciate feedback to help improve it. I will now go through and edit it for for language that comes across as promotional, rather than factual/ encyclopedic, so within a few minutes please do check again and let me know if it has been improved enough. --Readyforlara (talk) 05:17, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

It still reads very much like a travel brochure. As you are a professional writer, you should try to draw on more international sources such as The Telegraph where we read of a "rather glamorous bar" as well as other more positive assessments of the hotel's facilities. Too much local coverage is hardly authentic. The article seems to be far too close to the hotel's own publicity here. It might also be worth mentioning that Lonely Planet currently lists it is as the most expensive hotel in Manila and picks the Manila Hotel as the best 5-star hotel. Thanks for those tips Ipigott, and for also adding the category. In general I've steered away from including comments such as "glamorous bar" as I wonder where the distinction lies between facts and PR here. For example, it is both a fact, but also could be deemed as PR, to state something like " which The Telegraph has described as a "rather glamorous bar" " within a wikipedia page.

I'm not sure therefore how to respond to the "Speedy Deletion" tag, since as it states there, just because the page is about a company, doesn't mean it serves to promote or publicise that company. I've been very careful to edit it as factual with no PR writing flair whatsoever, and also match other entries on notable hotels on Wikipedia. What would be your advice on how to recognise the distinction in this case? Is there a better sample of a Wikipedia entry I can refer to?

For now, I'll add those references to the Telegraph and Lonely Planet as you advise, in order to include more recognised Western media resources. Thanks Readyforlara (talk) 21:17, 9 February 2014 (JST)

A further note, I've decided to join {{User WikiProject Hotels}} as a participant and listed so on my User page so that I can learn more about how to improve the hotel pages I've been creating and editing. Re: promotional style. I have removed the "Theme" paragraph, as in several other Shangri-La hotels articles edited by User:Readyforlara. True, the hotel chain is called "Shangri-La" but stating something like "The hotel's design and atmosphere is based on its namesake mystical valley featured in James Hilton's 1933 novel, Lost Horizon." is pure promotion unless referenced.
