Frogmore and other historic sites edit
Hey, User:Smmurphy, very glad to see you developing here, you write very well! I got notice of your editing here, not because I participated at the related AFD, but because I created the article on 55th Pennsylvania Infantry which was posted on Edisto Island, when I was developing NRHP article Frogmore (Edisto Island, South Carolina). I do not live close by, not at all, but I visited Edisto, and I was editing article on Frogmore after visiting it and taking photos! It is a historic plantation house built in 1820. I have some correspondence to complete before I can posting my photos however. Part of the article on it:
Frogmore is a distinctive antebellum sea island cotton plantation. In 1840 Dr. Mitchell operated a large plantation with more than 100 slaves. The house is a rectangular, two-story, hip-roofed residence. During the federal occupation of Edisto Island beginning in 1862, Col. More of the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry used Frogmore as his headquarters.[1]
There's some more material in the article. There are a number of antebellum plantation houses among 26(!) NRHP-listed places on Edisto Island, see National Register of Historic Places listings in Charleston County, South Carolina. There is a historical society and museum on the island which I stopped at only very briefly, but seems like quite a resource. --doncram 03:09, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, although I'm not sure that it is true that I write well. I certainly enjoy it. Over the next day or so I will try to add more information on the plantations and plantation owners on the island during the war. I'm not sure Frogmore is discussed in the sources I have (I cannot say enough about WP:TWL, if you don't already, you should sign up for access - I'm currently the account coordinator for Project MUSE and you should also consider newspapers.com among others), but once I'm through with those sources, I'll look through the NRHP locations specifically and see if I missed anything major. I will also be adding some historic pictures to the article, again I plan to do so today. I really appreciate the feedback, though, and keep up your good work as well!
