Edenham Grimsthorpe Elsthorpe & ScottlethorpeEdenham, Grimsthorpe, Elsthorpe and Scottlethorpe — The commas are necessary, as the parish name refers to 4 distinct settlements (not 2 as present title suggests). '&' to 'and' is also sensible. Nilfanion (talk) 22:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, though a serial comma would help make it more clear that there are four settlements, rather than three. First Light (talk) 21:42, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sources refer to the parish as just Edenham - do the parish and council names differ, or has the parish name changed? Peter E. James (talk) 23:00, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Often the name of the parish varies from that on the OS maps and the ONS site the district council uses the name as suggested apart from with an &. Keith D (talk) 23:27, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name edit

As has been mentioned above, all sources other than South Kesteven District Council refer to the civil parish as Edenham. Such lists on local authority websites are notoriously unreliable! Up to 31 March 2010 the council had not issued a notice under Section 75 of the Local Government Act 1972, which would officially change the name and provide notification to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the Ordnance Survey, Office for National Statistics, Royal Mail and Lincolnshire County Council. Until such a notice is issued, the official name remains Edenham, no matter what the District Council may claim (a situation that is not unique to South Kesteven).

Other than the South Kesteven District Council website, and mirrors of both that and Wikipedia, there are no independent sites that verify that the parish has changed its name. However, as late as February 2010 the local newspaper, The Bourne Local, was reporting that "Members of Edenham Parish Council, which also covers Grimsthorpe, Scottlethorpe and Elsthorpe, are now writing to the brewery to bring back the "heart" of the village."

It is, of course possible, that a Section 75 notice has been issued since 31 March 2010, which would be reported in the Bulletin of Changes to Local Authority Arrangements, Areas and Names in England to be published by the Department for Communities and Local Government in the autumn of 2011. However, this seems unlikely as South Kesteven District Council's formal notification of Result of Uncontested Election, a legal document dated 7 April 2011, refers only to the Parish of Edenham.

It looks like Wikipedia has been duped by a bit of sloppy work on the council's website into believing that a name change has taken place. Skinsmoke (talk) 04:54, 22 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
