Photograph of woodmill and chips is good but it would be more appropriate on the page for Twofold Bay rather than on the page for Eden. The mill is on Twofold Bay, but not at Eden as many sources, including those famous maps and satellite maps, show. Access to the mill (and to the naval wharf and depot) is from the Princes Highway many kilometres south of Eden. Phayla (talk) 00:14, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Matilda, have replied to your comment on my Talk page, on the Talk page. I do not even know how to access someone's talk page even if I wanted to. My old brain no longer holds as much information or learns as fast as the brains of you younger ones, although I was at one time a Senior Lecturer in a tertiary institution . Port of Eden edit

Where do the port of Newcastle, north of Sydney, NSW, and the port of Port Kembla, south of Sydney, fit into this scheme of NSW ports? Both of these ports also take large ships-remember the ship running aground on the Newcastle beach at the end of 2007? Phayla (talk) 01:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Finale edit

I have many more notes on Eden but have decided not to continue adding them. I'll go back to the three book manuscripts I have nearly completed. I'll leave it to others to find the information and to add it. So "Goodbye"Phayla (talk) 01:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

History - licensed? edit

In the 1850s there were four hotels in Eden. One of these hotels, the Crown and Anchor first licensed in 1845, still stands. It is no longer licensed but it still provides accommodation to travellers.

These statements seem contradictory. If a hotel is still providing accomodation to travellers it seems that it would still be licensed for this purpose. My sense is that maybe the author is referring to licensed in the sense of ability to sell alcohol? This is one way the word is commonly used. But to anyone outside Australia, this is not obvious. Clarification: were they originally licensed as purveyors of alcohol or licensed as hotels? Is it no longer licensed as a hotel or no longer licensed as a purveyor of alcohol. Also, a link might be provided to explain usage of the term licensed. (Australia hotel licensing requirements; Australia alcohol regulations).Lambjams (talk) 23:33, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

See Australian pub#Pubs as accommodation. For historic reasons, pubs in Australia are almost universally called "X Hotel" or "Hotel X" -see here too. In terms of the use of the term "licencing" referring to hotels - this would only be understood in Australia as referring to liqour licencing. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 07:21, 11 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Could the Australian pub#Pubs as accommodation link be used to link the word "hotel" to the pubs page? This is non-obvious to anyone outside The Empire.Lambjams (talk) 01:59, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't there be one? I don't know how to do that. Thepm (talk) 06:56, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
