HID index out of place in the first sentence? edit

Might the HID index in the first sentence be out of place, when it's not specifically economic, but includes all of these:

Life expectancy, literacy, education, standard of living, and GDP per capita for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare.

The economy of Iceland is small but well-developed (most developed in the world according to United Nations Human Development Index), with a gross domestic product estimated at US $ 12.172 billion (132nd of 227 countries) in 2005 (and a per capita GDP of $40,277, which is among the world's highest.) Doesn't have a nice flow.

Wouldn't GDP per capita or similar index be a more correct purely economically?

Fair use rationale for Image:ISK 100 note.jpg edit

Image:ISK 100 note.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Recent Events for Iceland edit

412%? 712%? Really? The UK is pleased with 2%, and is slightly worried about the current rate. This seems very unlikely. Larklight (talk) 20:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

removed it for now.
"Iceland's economy continued to grow at a rapid pace in 2006, reaching an estimated rate of 412%. This brisk increase followed two earlier years of 712% growth per annum. The healthy gain was mainly based on investment in a 690-MW hydropower project at Kárahnjúkar, in the northeastern mountain region, and an aluminum plant built by Alcoa at Reyðarfjörður on the east coast. These two projects cost $3 billion–$3.5 billion over the construction period of three years and were to be completed in 2007, by which time the economy was expected to have slowed down. By February 2006 the exchange rate and share prices had fallen sharply in the wake of overheating of the economy and turbulence in the currency market. Share prices, however, recovered their loss in the latter half of the year." Larklight (talk) 20:37, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

maybe 4.12% and 7.12%? 82.17.48.222 (talk) 19:50, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

new section edit

I would expect a service / hospitality / tourism section in this article, as that is a major component of the economy. Turidoth (talk) 05:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I believe that tourism and hospitality are less important to the Icelandic economy than say information technology. I'm not sure we need information about tourism on this page. OliAtlason (talk) 00:03, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger of Nordic Tiger edit

I propose that Nordic Tiger be merged to this article. There's not much need for a separate article on a short-lived nickname. Fg2 (talk) 07:21, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Changing intro edit

The intro sounds terrible in the present circumstances: "well-developed", "highest levels of economic freedoms". These kinds of astonishing texts should be changed.Daanschr (talk) 13:57, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

gdp and government revenues edit

The infobox has 12b GDP and nearly 10b in government revenues. Is this correct, as it would suggest an average tax rate of about 80%? --86.162.175.76 (talk) 00:57, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Either of the number is probably incorrectly dated. The CIA factbook currently says 11.9 billion USD in GDP and 4.8 billion USD in government revenue. --Bjarki (talk) 01:24, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Where is the last data of economic growth? edit

All other articles about the economy of other countries has its last economic growth data(i.e. economy of south korea, economy of germany, etc...)
