Unfortunately I don't currently have a copy of the DSM-V at hand, so I can't do this myself, but this page needs to be updated to reflect the DSM-V changes to eating disorder criteria. Ex: the part about having to have menstrual disruption for it to qualify as anorexia- it needs to be indicated that that is now outdated. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.118.32.224 (talk) 16:04, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Gods... someone edited this article and added a whole ton of really badly-written things, making it a complete MESS! I have edited some of the sections to clean them up (and deleted one that was really irrelevant) but it's going to take quite awhile to fix this article fully. -Sighs heavily- Melange fiesta (talk) 22:51, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I removed one external link, sponsored by a "for profit" treatment company. I replaced it with the NAMI link, which offers a comprehensive overview. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spotlydia (talkcontribs) 20:02, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have cleaned up the wording of the Characteristics section of this page. I have also added the DSM-IV criteria and one external link to the Something Fishy section on EDNOS. I would like to add more to the page, but I'm not entirely sure what else I can add. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to contribute. [SECTION REMOVED]

Hi Melange fiesta, thanks for your contributions. Having to get permission or let people know before editing an article goes against the idea of Wikipedia though. No one owns any article and like it say below the edit box: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it.". Icey 16:31, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey. I will change that... sorry. :| (Does it show that I'm new?) Melange fiesta 16:45, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, it shows there's so many policies and guidelines that it's impossible to learn them all :) Icey 16:47, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added the Pale Reflections and *Not Otherwise Specifed* Links. I feel the latter, is a much better explanation of EDNOS, seeing as how the person suffers, therefor knowing more about this subject that one can find in any textbook/medical journal. MorbidHunger--12.111.124.251 20:31, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have added a link to the national eating disorder charity beat, i would also suggest a summary of this page is added to the main eating disorder page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.164.233.90 (talk) 08:51, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

DSM Criteria edit

Someone decided to take liberties with the DSM criteria and add "or overweight" to the end of criterion #2, and something about "overweight body type" to criterion #4, so I have changed both of them back to what they are supposed to be. If it's not actually in the DSM, it doesn't belong here!! Melange fiesta 15:08, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Have once again had to take out a line that didn't belong to the DSM. Starving oneself without substantial weight loss would probably fall under criterion two anyway; it does NOT need its own separate (misspelled) line. Melange fiesta (talk) 13:03, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Copyright problems with diagnostic criteria edit

The American Psychiatric Association has not released its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders into public domain, but claims copyright. The Wikimedia Foundation has received a letter of complaint (Ticket:2010030910040817, for those with access) about the use of their diagnostic criteria in this and a number of other articles. Currently, this content is blanked pending investigation, which will last approximately one week. Please feel free to provide input at the copyright problems board listing during that time. Individuals with access to the books would be particularly welcome in helping to conduct the investigation. Assistance developing a plan to prevent misuse of the APA's material on Wikipedia projects would also be welcome. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:08, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced information edit

A long addition of unsourced information was recently added to this article Nutrition.and.Health please read Bold Revert Discuss. Your initial edit was bold, after it was reverted this should have been brought to the talk page. N&H why do you think this information should be added and what Reliable Sources do you have that can be added to the article. VVikingTalkEdits 20:44, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

MEDMOS edit

Regarding this edit, Keicee7, please see WP:MEDMOS regarding the order of sections in medical articles. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:02, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

CUNY citations edit

Will the CUNY students please stop adding citations to the CUNY library database? Those are not valid citations for Wikipedia, where most readers and editors are not CUNY students.

  • Napierski-Prancl, M. "Eating Disorders. In D. CarrEncyclopedia of the Life Course and Human Development (Vol. 1, pp. 151-154)". Gale Virtual Reference Library.

That link goes to a login page that is invalid for most readers and editors.

Also, please review WP:MEDRS on the sourcing of medical content on Wikipedia. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:48, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 10 December 2014 edit

Nutrition.and.Health (talk) 23:17, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

We are currently trying to edit the EDNOS for our Psychology class at Hunter college. The citations are not properly listed, and we need to add them before class tomorrow december 11 2014. Please open access to the EDNOS page so we can properly edit and add citations as needed as some are not there or the ones that are there are entered in the wrong section. The citations are from CUNY hunter libraries databases, so unless you are a hunter student you probably can't see the whole article and if that is the case, you are free to ask us to send you a copy so you can see the sources are real, validated and accurate. I will appreciate all your help, thank you so much.

So much wrong with this paragraph it makes my wikihead hurt. The use of the work "our page", smells of Ownership of the page. We cannot see their sources because they are in their library; you should have at least posted the references, even if I don't have access to the specific journal or documents, having the reference through inline citation is needed. You seem to be violating wp: terms of editing, by using a single account for multiple editors. Also sounds like you are Not Here to build an encyclopedia, your just here to get a good grade. Apparently the community does not like the edits you have been making now, so it is not our responsibility to allow unsourced, poorly sourced information into the article.
You should have thought about your grade before you Edit Warred. You were given ample opportunities to take it to the talk pages before you got the article locked down. I think I have said enough. I will get off my box now. VVikingTalkEdits 23:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • If you have serious contributions that you want to get added to the encyclopedia please note there are no deadlines here--discuss the changes here. If you are reading this just because you have to do something on a deadline for a course at CUNY Hunter, please make your edit at User:Nutrition.and.Health/sandbox/Eating disorder not otherwise specified and direct your professor over there. Note, that page will end up getting deleted. — xaosflux Talk 01:11, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

At no point I tried to say I edited the page myself or that it is mine. I did include the citations specifically, but when the some outside people, not directly people from our class, edited the EDNOS page again, some of the citations got lost, as I tried to re-enter them so that everyone can see where the sources are taken from the page was banned..all I am asking is that you propose a way to settle this war as I am not looking to continue to fight over the edits made, but to amicably settle the dispute. I am very much interested in EDNOS from personal experience as well as have written other related articles about the disorder, and all I was trying to do in a way is to inform people about the disease with all the specifics about it, but I am not a doctor nor should I give advice on how to help people with the disorder, but I guess as I wrote about the topic, I felt I could share some notes here from the articles off course, that could potentially help people with the disease get better. I am interested in building a better encyclopedia and this is my first time editing wikipedia, so I would appreciate all the help I can get about writing meaningful and important information that can instruct and help people. If you would like to offer tips on how to properly edit the page as of now, I will greatly appreciate it. I apologize for the edit war and I am really sorry, that was not my intention at all. I want to help improve the page and yes we are doing it for class too, but that is not the primary intention; once I got to learn about the editing process I was thrilled to help improve wikipedia pages. Thanks in advance and hope everyone is having a great night. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nutrition.and.Health (talkcontribs) 03:23, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nutrition.and.Health - are you sure that this is due for class tomorrow? I thought the assignment was completed and you weren't being graded on your mainspace contributions. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 03:30, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

The professor needs to be able to see our contributions by tomorrow Thursday, December 11, and I would hate for the citations to be wrongly entered that is all; there should be an update to citations 13 and 14 respectively for what I saw; I was entering them when they got lost in the banned page and they didn't go through. I am not certain if the EDNOS page will be re-open for editing? and when? I would appreciate any help, and feel free to let me know how to properly edit the page. The page was completed yes, but during the edit war a lot of information got erased, changes, deleted, re-edited and it became a bit of a mess, but hope we can all find a neutral page we can all agree on. I am all open to suggestions and I will comply with wikipedia guidelines and rules; this is my first time doing anything with wikipedia, and I am still learning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nutrition.and.Health (talkcontribs) 03:58, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nutrition.and.Health, please make further edits and citations on this version of the page: User:Nutrition.and.Health/sandbox/Eating disorder not otherwise specified.

Nutrition.and.Health I am sorry you may miss a course deadline, but Wikipedia is a real-time website viewed by many people-- not just a term paper seen only by your professor-- so it is important to respect the guidelines and policies here. There were four posts on your talk page, made over many hours, explaining edit warring to you and asking you to engage here on article talk. You did not. Most editors would have been blocked from editing for that. You have so far not been, and are still able to edit the content at User:Nutrition.and.Health/sandbox/Eating disorder not otherwise specified, where your professor can grade your work. If your professor did not explain to you how Wikipedia works, then you might want to approach your University Dean or school newspaper to discuss the problems with your instruction in the course. Also, please sign your talk page posts by entering four tildes ( ~~~~ ) after them. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:03, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I was just made aware of this talk page recently, as I am still learning ,and I did not know all about the wikipedia rules and guidelines as stated above; I am so sorry. I was now able to go over them and this talk page is really helpful as well. Thank you for your input and helping me do a better job in the future. I will do my best to properly edit the page in question when it is reopen. Feel free to comment and leave any suggestions as to how to proceed. I wanted to include some citations that were missing. I appreciate your help, and again I apologize for any inconvenience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nutrition.and.Health (talkcontribs) 05:25, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Did your instructor not give you guidance in using talk pages? Also, your instructor says the course is over and papers are already graded (please click here to see the statement from your professor and click here for another statement from your professor. Since this page is for discussing improvements to this article, and the article will be protected from editing for another week, you should put further requests and conversation on your own talk page, at User talk:Nutrition.and.Health. Revert edit

I propose to restore the article to this version, to remove the new poorly sourced and unsourced text. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:40, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
