Misidentified photo edit

labeled Northern Black Racer, C. c. constrictor

The image at left is not a Black racer, Coluber constrictor constrictor, but a Black Ratsnake, Elaphe obsoleta (at least, under the traditional taxonomy). See the notes I left at Commons:Image talk:Coluber constrictor Schwarznatter fg01.jpg. I have not heard from the photographer. I am quite sure on the ID, you can see other images of Coluber constrictor constrictor in this article and can see the difference--the two appear quite similar at first glance.

The Elaphe photo is still on the Italian language Coluber constrictor page. I posted a note there (in Italian) about the error. Also, there is sentence in the "Description" section which makes no sense to me: "juveniles...greenskin, orange tail, red stripe going around every 1.3 inches, and a yellow nose"!!! To what subspecies does this refer??? Or did somebody put it there as a joke? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.109.236.194 (talk) 23:03, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Expand, Move, or Fix edit

The Eastern racer is a subspecies, Coluber constrictor is called the North American Racer and is found all over North America, on both coasts. Currently the article says, "C. constrictor is found throughout the United States, east of the Rocky Mountains, but it also ranges north into Canada and south into Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize." Not correct, as shown on the map to the right. Article is mishmash of subspecies and species information.71.63.160.210 (talk) 08:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wondering edit

Black racer snakes? Spotted in woodsy area in Morris County, New Jersey, on a rock near a stream.

If there are any snakexperts here, wondering whether these are black racer snakes (see photo).--Tomwsulcer (talk) 02:10, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
