Is EPS calulated per quarter or per year? —Preceding unsigned comment added by FreakBoy (talkcontribs) 14:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

It can be "calculated" (cited actually) any way that is convenient. It will usually be annual, but news reports will often have EPS in the most recent quarter. The key thing is to use the annual for calculations that depend on annual convention, like price/earnings.--Gregalton (talk) 16:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Sign

EPS can apparently be negative, at least for common stocks, as a look at current EPS listings will show. Some explicit statement of the fact that the numerator in the ratio can be either profit or loss seems called for although it is implicit in the Net Income formula. So what?

Hi there. Could someone please put a little bit in this article about why someone would care about the EPS of a company? Why is it important? What does a high value show, what does a low value show? What are the views about how important it is in determining whether to invest in this company or not? Do some say a high value is very important, while others say that this value is not nearly as important as some other value? Please add! Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.179.25.23 (talk) 21:23, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Looking

I was looking for HEADLINE EARNINGS/(LOSS) and EARNINGS PER SHARE. I don't know the cpy right accociation, so you may please decide what you can put up on Wiki....

Paul

I need to find the formula to count the Weighted Average number of shares.

Yunus

If there were 10000 shares at start of year and 5000 issued on 11th day of a non leap year then the weighted average would be (10000*10+15000*355)/365. Is that enough of a clue? Do you have other things happening to the shares besides a share issue? crandles 13:36, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Dave

I'm with Paul, you need to define WANofS somewhere. I realize now it is basically Number Of Shares (thx Yunus), the weighted average bit makes you think it's something more complicated.

Parminder

Could somebody please tell me about, "what is expected from a EPS value?" Greater value indicate what? And a lesser value indicate what? How to tell by looking at EPS value that company is going well? (In terms of shares , investment) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bantipadam02 (talkcontribs) 23:10, 29 March 2010 (UTC) I searched on "Diluted Earnings" and was brought to this page outlining the definition of EPS. There is little mention or clarification of what the dilutive effect means or why there are two ways to consider EPS (non diluted vs diluted). The search term for this page should at least be cleaned up so that 'diluted earnings' doesn't drop someone to this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.94.148.72 (talk) 01:25, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
