More detailed biography to follow. Williams concentrated on the local history but in terms of it being a microcosm and link in the development of the San Joaquin Valley and Delta in general. The area was a major transportation corridor from the time of the Spanish expeditions, the El Camino Viejo, the fur traders, the Gold Rush with its steamboats and stagecoach routes, during the time of the railroads and now with the interstates.
