Talk:Earl of Inchcape

Above the village of Wonersh in Surrey rises a single hill called Chinthurst. On the summit of that hill is a 4-storey circular tower said to have been built as a folly by Lord Inchcape in 1930. Sadly it is now a ruin. Questions, why did he built it there, who owns it now, and what is the connection between Mackay/Inchape and Wonersh/Surey ? Michaelpwilliams@btinternet.com

The tower is known as Lord Inchcape’s Folly and was built in the 1930s. I understand that the top was built to look ruined, as opposed to having been damaged. The purpose is unclear but it was either a show of wealth and somewhere to entertain guests of the main manor house (Lutyens’ design Chinthurst Hill) although there is a rumour it was built to house the gardener’s pornography! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.227.176.43 (talk) 12:00, 15 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
