Direct lineage

Florence of Worcester listed Eadric Streona as the son of Aethelric (Aelfheah) son of King Edgar the Peaceful.

The AS Chronicle refers to him in 1009 as the brother of Ealdorman Brihtric, who was the uncle of Wulfnoth Cild, Godwin's father. Wulfnoth's father was Aethelmaer the Fat (Se Greata) and his father was Aethelweard the Historian, who is at pains to remind us in bad Latin that he is descended from Aethelred I. Thus Eadric Streona is not of humble birth- as Florence of Worcester claims, probably as an insult. He also married Aethelred the Unready's daughter which would be unlikely if he were not of noble birth. It appears that he accompanied Aethelweard the Historian in diplomatic relations with the Danes, which resulted in the payment of huge amounts of Danegeld, thus putting him in the position of a go between and eventual traitor. -streona 11. Another Spelling Variation of Eadric's Name

No it doesn't. He may have been called Eadric of Stretton, but other people called "of Stretton" were not necessarily his relatives just because they came from Stretton- Streona

Professor Kelley has theorised that "AEthelric" given in a will as Sreona's father is a typo for Aethelweard, but Aethelric or Aelfric was Streona's predecessor as Ealdorman of Mercia, who was exiled and the post left vacant until Streona was appointed, but this may have caused the mistaken belief that he had inherited the title hereditarily.It may be that nobody wanted to own up tho being his father (still less his sons).Streona 22:53, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

• I am afraid this is some way from GA. Preliminary comments:
• The lead is too short. An article of this length would normally have a lead of a couple of (short) paragraphs.
• There is no source given for much of the article. All (apart from the lead) should be referenced.
• Original sources are cited and quoted. This is WP:OR as Wikipedia articles should be based on secondary sources.
• The sources are not in alphabetical order.
• The external links do not appear to be reliable sources.
• It would be worth looking at Simon Keynes's DNB article on Eadric at [1]. If you are a member of a UK public library, your card number will give you access to this.
