Fastball

edit

When talking about Gooden's decline: "(notably a fastball that rose out of the strike zone, which hitters increasingly avoided)" There's no such thing as a rising fastball. This should be removed.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.115.247.162 ([[User talk:{71.115.247.162} (talk · contribs · [https://tools.wmflabs.org/whois/gateway.py?lookup=true&ip=71.115.247.162}

What?

edit

Dude, what are you talking about? If it rose, then it is a rising fastball. Duh.

If it did, but the pitch referred to as a "rising fastball" doesn't actually go up. It's an optical illusion caused by the backspin of the ball making it drop slower than it looks like it should. That's been well-documented. Furthermore, how about some discussion of the tremendous overuse of Gooden when he was young (218ip at 19, 277 at 20, 250 at 21) being a factor for his early decline? -PKB

1996 World Series Championship

edit

The article says Gooden was left off of the Yankees' 1996 postseason roster, but the sidebar notes that he was a World Series champion that same year. Would he still have received a ring even if he wasn't on the team? BZA99 (talk) 21:20, 29 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, he received a ring that year. See, the following: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/dwight-gooden-numbers-article-1.2436709
The sidebar should state that he was a 3 time world champion, just as the article itself notes w/r/t the 2000 championship being his third ring. 100.16.233.176 (talk) 22:35, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
