Olivelle missed a reference in the pali canon edit
Olivelle is cited as a source for the idea that dvija appears only very late. I discussed this with him years ago, and we could not identify any references in the Pali canon. However there is one, at thig 15.1:31.3, Annena ca pānena ca / Tappaya samaṇe dvijātī ca, “satisfy with food and drink ascetics and the twice-born”. Clearly dvijā must be a term for Brahmins here. Note the Sanskritic form; in Pali when referring to birds it is normally dija. Anyway this is original research so I'm not sure how it relates to Wikipedia, but it is a fact that the term "twice-born" is used of Brahmins in an early Buddhist text, likely some centuries before it appears in Sanskrit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.186.33.30 (talk) 07:23, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
