editWhile following up the provenance of the Jorissen millstones I found a dissenting view that the stones could not have originated in the west indies from either England or France (whither came most as discussed in the linked article). The late millstone expert Theodore Hazen believed that he could identify the region that a millsone originated just from the conglomerate it displayed. His view was that the millstones were Esopus conglomerate from the Rochester-Accord area of New York, so I have included the link. [Theodore R. Hazen, a professional mill restorer, runs a website dedicated to mill technology and history.
