Once read he was dishonorably discharged from the Royal Navy. Anyone know the details? 86.7.208.240 23:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Some details appeared in Daily Mail "Weekend" magazine 16/09/2006 - apparently he tried to push a senior officer off the ship he was working on - sentenced to nine months in Colchester barracks, then given a dishonourable discharge. Camillus (talk) 23:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
The incident was mentioned on the BBC's Should I Really Give Up Flying? programme. According to them he tried to throw his commanding officer off the deck of an aircraft carrier. Ninja-lewis 00:32, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

The truth is that after a run ashore in Scotland he was waiting on the quayside for a boat to bring him and his drunken shipmates back to the ship, lying at anchor aircraft carrier HMS Hermes. Told to stand aside to let the boat officer on first, Bannatyne pushed the officer and became abusive. Back on Hermes he was placed on a charge and sent before the ships captain with the result that he was ordered to serve time in the military prison. Being a bit of a 'jack the lad' Bannatyne might well have been provoked by the officers seniorority, obviously was not cut out for the disipline of navy life. He could not afford then to buy himself out of the navy, decided to do it the other route instead.

I cannae do it, captain

His Autobiography 'Anyone can do it' mentions the incident. Apparently, Bannatyne was longing to escape from a 12year Navy contract and a bullying officer showing off to his girlfriend provided Bannatyne with the right opportunity.

It should be noted, however, that throughout the book (particularly the early sections), Bannatyne is at pains to prove he is not a thug- before discussing the facts that suggest he is.

Oh Duncan

Bannatynes Group includes: list

This list is written in an utterly bizarre format that makes no sense to a passing reader. I have attempted to wikify it but with no knowledge of the subject matter, and with the confusing format, I am not sure what it is trying to say in the first place. Someone who does know should go through and improve it further. Erk|Talk -- I like traffic lights -- 14:21, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Affair with Chris Evans?

Being new to this I don't want to leap in feet first and go deleting things, but I find it hard to believe that Duncan Bannatyne would have had an affair with Chris Evans! Or vice versa for that matter. Gruach 09:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

  • In response to my own comment, I have just been looking over some other instances of vandalism on the site and didn't realise quite how widespread it is. I have now discovered the history tab, and can see just what people are up against here! Gruach 10:58, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Acting

Page does not mention his acting. I believe he paid at a charity auction to be an extra in something and has gone on to be in a few tv dramas including an episode of Poirot or Marple K9ine (talk) 01:30, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Atheism

Removed the assertion that he is an atheist, given that it is in direct contradiction to the Sunday Herald article which is linked at the bottom. --86.128.94.137 (talk) 07:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Red BMX

They didn't appear until Bannatyne was about 30 years old. Surely he didn't have his first paper round that late in his life? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.104.127.93 (talk) 20:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Casinos / poker

There's no mention in this article of Duncan's hugely succesful casino empire (I believe this made almost as much as his gyms at one point?), nor of his love of poker as a hobby (he often plays charity poker games, donating a fair chunk to the pot). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.140.77.73 (talk) 23:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

How can he be taken in by Blair and Brown?

It is amazing how rich people can be made fools of by highly skilled sycophants. Blair and Brown hate everything Duncan stands for. Their politics is based on creating social failure and exploiting it for personal gain. They despise excellence and have no understanding of wealth creation. I feel really let down Duncan. How can I trust your judgement on anything, when you are such a fool in politics? Choalbaton (talk) 13:23, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

This is a wikipedia article written about Duncan Bannatyne, not his e-mail account inbox nor a place to vent your random opinions. This is not a forum, please take it elsewhere. 81.155.158.218 (talk) 22:08, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Glasgow Ice Cream Wars and Twitter threat

Have added a quote from Bannatyne about this period and (I believe) improved the flow of the paragraph which was ending with short bullet-point-like sentences. It seems today he has issued a reward to break a man's arms in response to a threat on his daughter on the Twitter but I will not add anything regarding this as it is still early days. You can read about it here if someone wants to add it or I may remember to come back: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/dragons-den-star-in-twitter-threat-2330910.html . I always thought the ice cream thing added to his character and as for the twitter threat: totally understandable. I'm in. Sorry if I've messed up the referencing but I'm used to Harvard style. - jackWild — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.97.219.225 (talk) 01:24, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Heart attack

People on Twitter who I know to be friends of Duncan Bannatyne are saying that he's had a heart attack today and is in hospital. Of course it's inappropriate to add this to the article until there are reliable sources (and till we know whether it's serious enough to include at all). I note it here in case any new or anonymous users add this info, as it may help others in communicating with those users in a friendly way and not assuming vandalism. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 17:08, 1 October 2012 (UTC) I have added a reference on his possible heart attack to the previously unrefenrenced line on this in the article.Ancienterracht (talk) 10:02, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
