Planning of the lines edit

  • March-May 1905: plans adopted for many lines including Manhattan Bridge, Lafayette Avenue, and Fourth Avenue
  • April-October 1905: Brooklyn IRT redesigned with provisions for Manhattan Bridge, Lafayette Avenue, and Fourth Avenue
  • 1907-1908: Fourth Avenue Line moved from Flatbush Avenue to Ashland Place to allow for non-IRT operation; junction included for Lafayette Avenue
  • May 1908: Brooklyn IRT opens
  • November 1909: ground broken for the Fourth Avenue/Manhattan Bridge Line in Flatbush Avenue Extension
  • March 1911: possibly the first proposal to use the junction for the Brighton Line
