Talk:Dryopteris filix-mas

aka Lastroea Filix-mas

Apparently this was once also known as Lastroea filix-mas, judging by Cooley's Cyclopaedia of Practical Receipts 6th ed. (1880), entry Extract of Male Fern. Google also finds another reference, in The Retrospect of Medicine v. 33 (1856), article 47: "Treatment of Taenia, by the Oil of Male Fern", p. 159.

I don't know whether this is a name change for this one plant or for the family, but I thought it worth recording somewhere. Hv (talk) 10:58, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

The fern genus Lastrea, probably written as well Lastroea by some authors, is now regarded as outdated, several ferns now sorted to different genera were treated as belonging to L. in former times. I am not sure if there is any accepted species of Lastrea left at time but do guess there is none. However, thanks four your contribution!

Erroneous image to be unlinked

The one image originally IDed as Dryopteris filix-mas, now renamed to "Polypodiales terrestrial unID 01", should be removed from article about Dryopteris filix-mas. The image in fact does show much likely Matteuccia struthiopteris, yet i can not exclude any chance that it was Oreopteris limbosperma. I do exclude that this fern is some Dryopteris sp.!
