DMK and the Brahmins edit

Just like DMK has taken a U - turn regards to its anti-Hindi stand, it is now not a violent anti-Brahmin party. Brahmins in Tamilnadu are made to understand that they have a secret understanding with our MLA S.V.Sekhar for providing support to Brahmins on Reservation. Why there is no frank mention of such progressive stands of the party in these pages? DMK is not a Soda bottle party anymore and its young generation leadership are well molded by its seniors to take a progressive stand. Wiki is the right platform to represent it.

Please read What Wikipedia is not. This is not a forum for your personal analysis. A blog is the place for presenting your views and not wikipedia. (and lay of the personal insults please)--Sodabottle (talk) 18:20, 20 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

There also was a brief period, during which it idealized a separate Dravidian land, comprising the southern regions of India, and Tamil Eelam.

That the DMK originally wanted an independent Tamil Nadu is well known, but could someone please cite a source for the claim that the DMK had designs on the Northeast of Sri Lanka? I've never seen a reference to this in any source, and it seems to run counter to the suggestion that Chelvanayakam briefly toyed with the idea before dropping it for lack of support from Tamil politicians. -- Arvind 21:55, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the party was formed in 1949? Please verify the current info in the info box--Ravishankar 16:24, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

What does the votes in the table refer to? edit

It is confusing what the votes in the table represent. Please mention clearly what those numbers represent. Also I think its better if the numbers are changed to Indian Numbering System. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Veeru7 (talkcontribs) 20:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

============================ edit

The article appears to bear a biased view; I admit I have not read it in its entirety, but the section 'Justice Party, forerunner to DMK' clearly is in need of reliable citations to support it. Subravenkat 23:08, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

======================================== edit

Can you please also add about the party's biased and want of power to remain in the family itself, by removing people, those who are potential threat to take away the power from the family. Removed people list is increasing but the names long pending are the party chief's sons. Ashok249 (talk) 21:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have a point which has misleaded in the article. In Introduction part it has been written: "DMK holds the distinction of being the first party other than the Indian National Congress to win state-level elections with clear majority on its own in any state in India." -Which is not a fact now, so it should be changed. For example TMC(Trinmool Congress) has won in West Bengal with majority as well as in 2003 Rajasthan Assembly elections BJP won with 60% majority. [For reference: http://www.tehelka.com/story_main40.asp?filename=Ne061208rajasthan.asp]. So, please update/discuss this point. Vcgupta (talk) 14:30, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

the lead says "the first party" not the "only party". After 1967 a lot of parties in lot of states have done this. But the lead is correct in saying DMK is the "first party" and that fact doesnt change--Sodabottle (talk) 14:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
DMK is not the first party to have done this. It was the Communist Party of India which won the 1957 elections in Kerala. Please correct this.--Emilkadavil (talk) 13:14, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

POV? edit

Can someone point out the issues relating to the NPOV tag please. It would be nice if people who are concerned about the POVs to list them out so that it can be sorted. Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 11:17, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is very unfortunate indeed that instead of having a well written scholarly article that would do everyone involved with Wikipedia proud, what we have is a badly written article with many mistakes and too many personality clashes that should be avoided.

Why should the Indian Numbering System be used, in articles such as this one, fails to make sense to me? Don't people in the rest of the world have any right to peruse this article and others like it? Abul Bakhtiar (talk) 11:19, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Rajiv Gandhi Murder - Before and After edit

 After MGR's death in December 1987, AIADMK split into two factions between Janaki (MGR's wife) and Jayalalithaa (Propaganda President and Co-artist of MGR in Films). This ended the winning streak of AIADMK and brings DMK to the power in 1989 State assembly elections. The central government under Chandrashekar has dismissed the DMK government on argument of "constitutional machinery in the state had broken down".
 Then in 1991 elections are arranged to be held for both State and Central government. In 21 May 1991 Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai in a election campaign meeting. It was later found the he has been killed by suicide bomber from LTTE, citing IPKF atrocities in Srilanka as a reason.
 This lead to sympathy wave favor of AIADMK - Congress alliance and DMK is deprived of any seats in the Parliament. This brings the rise of political rival J.Jayalalitha to the DMK.

Atheistic? edit

I'm troubled by the phrase in the introduction "...is an atheistic regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu in India." This seems to imply that the DMK is made up of atheists, that it supports the non belief in gods as official state policy, when I think in reality the case is that they are simply a secular organization. Does anyone agree/disagree with this? I think "secular" would be a much better word to use than "atheistic." Kronos o (talk) 05:41, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

when it was started it was openly atheist, advocated atheism as official policy. But mellowed down over the years. Now only the leader Karunanidhi speaks about atheism occasionally. So yes, the "atheistic" tag should be removed.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:06, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections edit

For readability's sake, can we split the election standings into two separate tables, one for the Assembly elections and another for the Lok Sabha elections? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 09:28, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes. that would make it clearer.--Sodabottle (talk) 09:38, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Better still, we can put them in a chart. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 10:14, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've split the tables as of now. Please check if it's OK. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:38, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
