Hydroponics? Why change the water? edit

Why exactly are we changing the water? Oxygen? Is it possible to just add an airstone and air pump to the water with some liquid plant food? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.247.28.234 (talk) 07:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fish tank edit

I own many stalks of bamboo. I use them in a fish tank with a betta as a deceration. I have had them for about a month, and they are doing great, even in the softened water. The only problem I had with them is that the fish swam between the stalks, got stuck, and died. I wrapped to rubber binders around the stalks, bought a new fish, and now they are doing great together. I do treat the water with betta water conditioner, and I still clean the tank about 1 to every 2 weeks. the bamboo was pretty cheap, 1 dollar a stalk for the straight stalks about 8 inches tall, 6 for the curly stalk about two and a half feet tall, and 2.50 for the straight stalks about 2 feet tall.

Not bamboo edit

That has nothing to do with Bamboo. Its only a common name for the plant "Lucky Bamboo". The Taxobox Picture is not D. sanderiana but the other species with same common name: Dracaena fragrans 'Stedneri'.
i believe you were talking about the last picture, which i have since removed due to it being Dracaena fragrans (Just some student on the web (talk) 19:25, 9 February 2022 (UTC))Reply

how can i contribute? edit

I have read most of the articles written for new wiki members but i have one question thats troubling me. When I first found this page I noticed that its not complete, but thats not my point, its our responsibility to make it complete. But I want to know how can I do it, I can do following things: 1) point to some resource(read external links) which covers lot of things on this topic. But thats not possible because most members think its spam linking. 2) I can copy that site and paste here, OR copy and write here in my own words. In both case I should give the credits(resouce links) to the original article/site. I am sure you won't suggest me to copy it shamelessly without giving credits, would you? 3) forget about writing/ ask for more options.

So after getting a message from one of the members I have stopped 1 and was thinking of doing 2 but felt like asking you all(3).

Expecting a fast reply of course not as fast as the removal of links that takes place here (read every 5 minutes).

This is a fast reply because I wrote it as soon as I read the above. Click on the "Help" link (probably on the left side of the page) to find an introduction to editing on Wikipedia. Generally, you should write in your own words but use information from an existing source, giving that source credit. See WP:CITE. (SEWilco 04:33, 29 October 2006 (UTC))Reply

Misleading name edit

Isn't the informal name "lucky bamboo" incorrect as this plant doesn't belong to the group of bamboos? --Abdull 10:20, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is incorrect. The incorrectidnessly should be explained in the article. (SEWilco 04:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC))Reply

However, it does sort of relate to bamboo; my best guess is that they didn't know it, they just named it without even looking it up.

Please, link this article to russian edit

https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%94%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%86%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B0_%D0%A1%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B4%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B0 I just don't know how to do it. Obviously it's the same plant, with different names.SoNick RND (talk) 10:19, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@SoNick RND: links between different language wikipedias are now handled by Wikidata. The problem is that one group of wikipedia articles is connected to Dracaena braunii (Q31318), including our article, and another group to Dracaena sanderiana (Q27686509), including the Russian article. Reliable sources (e.g. WCSP) say that actually Dracaena sanderiana is the accepted name and Dracaena braunii is a synonym, so it's us that are wrong and the Russians and others are right. Our article needs to be moved and then connected to the right Wikidata item. Peter coxhead (talk) 22:41, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Peter coxhead: I suppose someone should merge these two articles https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27686509 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q31318. But I've never done it before and afraid I'll broke something. T_T 10:25, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
I've moved our article to the now accepted name Dracaena sanderiana and linked it to Dracaena sanderiana (Q27686509).
The two Wikidata items should not be merged, at least in my view, since they link to different entries in various taxonomic databases and so give access to different information. It would be possible to move all the different language wikipedia links from Dracaena braunii (Q31318) to Dracaena sanderiana (Q27686509), but we don't know that editors at these wikipedias would be happy with this because it can have knock-on effects (e.g. to taxonbars).
The problem remains that Wikidata has no way of declaring that because a set of Wikidata taxon items are synonyms, any article in any wikipedia linked to any of them should be shown in the left margin. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:35, 4 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
