Highway naming
edit- The title of the article is "Dr. A. Santos Avenue". The lead contains: Dr. Aracadio Santos Avenue (Dr. A. Santos Avenue). Google maps shows 'Dr Arcadio Santos Ave and Paranaque-Sucat Road, and the "History" section states "Its present name is taken from Dr. Arcadio Santos...".
- My question is:
- Is this a long standing mistype or is there a source that uses the spelling "Aracadio" over the actual name? Otr500 (talk) 15:01, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
Article names and reversion
edit- I made edits that were reverted by User:HueMan1 to previous contributions by User:Arjayay without an edit summary. While this was likely a good faith edit it is problematic.
- 1)- Dr. A. Santos Avenue is a component of N63, the primary named road,
- 2)- The Mapping conventions/Roads list under N63 (Dr. A. Santos Avenue, Sucat Road. Ninoy Aquino Avenue to SLEX only),
- Omitting the National Route numbering from the lead (that is in the infobox) is against Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Alternative (guideline) as well as Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section#Alternative names (guideline) and Wikipedia:Article titles#Treatment of alternative names (policy).
- I do not at this time wish to debate or consider the objective criterion for choosing the "official" name and if it is more appropriate, as that can be subjective per above guidelines,
- However:
- The current trend in using the "official" naming on Philippine articles must include linking to the primary highway in more than just an infobox per above multiple policies and guidelines, which was my intentions, so there is continuity and cohesion (more info in Spelke's Three Principles of Object Perception), thus removing the confusion when articles miss a link to the principle highway, either totally or by placing alternate names in a paragraph other than first instance of use in the lead, that may not show up in a search such as for Magapit–Santa Teresita Road. At least the "entire road is designated as the National Route 119 (N119)" but that is not always the case.
- If there is no help wanted in this article I will simply tag it and return later for any needed corrections, such as exploring the removing of unsourced material (here, here, and here), possibly resulting in a stub article, because reverts without any explanation of reasoning can indicate that. - Otr500 - I'm afraid you have the wrong editor - the only edit I have ever made to this article was this one, where I corrected the spelling of reffered to referred, and left an edit summary of "Sp" - the standard abbreviation for a spelling correction . -Arjayay (talk) 16:59, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- My sincere apologizes, I meant to ping you (as a contributor) but screwed up so you can deservedly slap me if you want. I see it was just a spelling correction. I corrected the entry and sorry for the goof. Otr500 (talk) 17:13, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
