I removed some anti-Shoreway bias from the subsection "Lakefront". First off, the Shoreway is not a "high speed expressway" by any stretch of the imagination. Its speed limit is 50 mi/hr. Other freeways in Cleveland are 60 mi/hr with a few being 55 mi/hr.

The former text said "pedestrians must cross today over bridges in 1 or 2 places". There are more than 2 bridges crossing the shoreway to the lakefront that pedestrians may use. In any event, language like "1 or 2" is not acceptable in an encyclopedia.

The Shoreway is not the largest impediment to lakefront development either. The Port and cleanup of polluted land are a few that do come to mind.

EXCELLENT!

edit

Good job to whoever put together the 'future plans' section on this article. It is phenomenal and covers all the core projects. I assume you're an Urbanohio member (as I am too!) Good luck with future additions to this article!

yeah. Now it just needs sources--Sefringle 03:28, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rename to "Downtown Cleveland future plans"

edit

This article talks a lot about future plans for downtown Cleveland--moreso than it talks about what downtown actually is today. Plans from the mayor's office should be in an article entitled as such. I'm proposing renaming thsi article to "Downtown Cleveland future plans". Joshua 17:11, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I moved the page back, and cleaned up the Lakefront plan section. The article covers downtown history, current contitions, and plans for the future. If you feel it's lacking in some areas, feel free to expand it. - EurekaLott 19:17, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pictures

edit

Thanks to the uploader of the current pic of downtown, that's been bothering me for a while that we haven't had a current picture to balance the 1909 pic.

Theater District

edit

I removed this from the recently renamed Theater District section:

"ideastream shares the space with Playhouse Square's Arts Education Departmentin a partnership that unlike any in the U.S."

The "space" is One Playhouse Square. I don't think this information is very notable, and it kind of reads like an advertisement. If anyone thinks it merits inclusion in the article, put it back in, but please provide some more context. Confiteordeo 22:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Euclidrender.jpg

Image:Euclidrender.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Definition of Downtown

edit

Are the population figures given for 2000 and 2010 for the exact same area? I ask, because I can come up with the 2010 population figure adding four Census tracts that just visibly correspond with downtown. Does the 2000 population figure include the Census tract on the west side of the river (Tract 1033), or was that absent for from the 2000 definition of downtown? There needs to be a description of what counts as downtown proper in the opening paragraph. --Criticalthinker (talk) 08:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Land area

edit

Can someone add to the infobox and "history and redevelopment" section the square mileage of this area? It looks like a Census Tract, and if that is the case it should be fairly easy for someone who knows the area to find this important piece of information. --Criticalthinker (talk) 18:22, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Superior Arts District?

edit

The article does a fantastic job on the various districts of Downtown, including historical ones like Short Vincent. However, I'm surprised that there is no mention of the Superior Arts District. It should be added.

Done. Section added. LakeCityCle (talk) 21:22, 25 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
