I have heard that this station is to be axed during infrastructure improvements as it is too at risk from flooding. Btline (talk) 18:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Really? So what are they going to do with all the trains that join/split at this point, bringing together short 1- or 2-carriage trains to form slightly more profiable 2/3/4 carriage ones to/from inland destinations? How are you efficiently going to get from Aber to points on the Barmouth line and vice-versa? And in fact, where will the rail line be re-routed to? Because, if the station is flooded out, then the track almost certainly is - and there's no other realistic existing route to the stated places other than through Dovey. If you axe it, you will pretty much have to axe the entire mid/northern west coast rail provision. The passenger numbers may be low, but that's because there's barely a thousand people each year (3-4 per day) mad, desperate or local enough to actually start or end their journey there - but it's a very important connecting station. Don't come all Beeching on us.

Plus its such a bizarre little rail landmark... just this raised lump of concrete out in the middle of f***ing nowhere. You have to have moments like that in your life :D (there's a path? where? I didn't see any kind of local access while I was there, and damned if I can spot it on google maps. I'm guessing you just hop down from the platform, cross the tracks and go through some random gap in the fence... though oddly enough I'm sure last time I was there, some building works were going on in a nearby - though not immediately adjacent - field. What a load of rubbish. Except in the most exceptional circumstances, all trains to/from Aber and Barmouth split or join at Machynlleth and this has always been the case. And currently there is no meaningful connection at Dovey for north/south journeys except for one southbound journey around 8am. Any sane person will always travel to/from machynlleth where there is a snack bar rather than hang around for an hour at Dovey. And the local access is a well-established footpath clear enough for anyone to see.Flying Stag (talk) 12:41, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
