"it emerged on the Nickelodeon TV channel from 1991 to 1994, where it remained until being picked up by Disney Channel/ABC from 1996 to 1999." Does this seem poorly worded to anyone else? I'd fix it but I'm not entirely sure what is meant. It was on Nick from 91-94, then "remained" there, and then was on Disney from 96-99? Why not just say it was on Nick from 91-96? Also, how did it "emerge" over the time span of 91-94?
- How about, "It aired on Nickelodeon TV from 1991 to 1994. After two years, it was picked up by Disney Channel/ABC, where new episodes were created and aired from 1996 to 1999." Needs work, but maybe it's a little clearer now. --65.147.20.5 08:44, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
- Well, it AIRED much longer than that--heck, it was still airing post-2000 once in a while. It's just that the new seasons of the Nickelodeon version of Doug were being created/debuted from 1991-1994.
Someone needs to mention the low unemployment rate when it went out of production in 1999.
Mr. Dink
I'm going to remove this sentence "He also says the term "shag some balls" which has since become a sexual term. " To shag, in this case, is most certainly in the baseball sense of "to catch a fly ball". Austin Powers' British slang term is not relevant. LarryMac 19:50, 17 August 2005 (UTC) Ha Ha! - "Shag some balls" is referencing golf, not baseball. Mr Dink is in mid-swing with is golf club when he asks "Say Doug, Wanna shag some balls?"

Episode list separated from main article
I've gone ahead and moved the monstrous episode list to its own article, since that seems to be the standard procedure. Here are my opening paragraphs:
Below is an episode list for the Nickelodeon animated television series Doug. The series premiered on Nickelodeon in 1991, produced through 1994 and running there until 1996, and then was produced and aired by Disney's ABC network through 1999.
Nickelodeon's Doug (52 episodes; 4 seasons) featured two fifteen-minute stories with a commercial break between. ABC's Doug (66 episodes; 3 seasons) had a single theme the whole episode.
a Disney and/or Nickelodeon Cartoon?
Lord Hawk removed the category of Disney series. I think this should be re-added, unless he can prove the rest of the article wrong and that Disney didn't produce the series 1996-1999. It was both a Disney and a Nickelodeon series, and should be categorized as both. Steve McLinden 03:12, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

The Years 2005-2007? Italics?
some dufus changed the years the show ran from 1991-1999 to 2005-2007, yet left a bunch of 1990s references. and someone put almost the entire Disney's Doug paragraph in italics. could someone help me?12.219.115.201 02:13, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Hannah Montana?
also, there are numerous references to characters also being in Hannah Montana. i don't watch that particular show, so i cant change anything for a fact, but common knowledge tells me it's probably false. could someone help me? 12.219.115.201 02:19, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
There is no Hannah Montanna references in Doug. Doug was made in the 90's Hannah Montanna is a live disney tv show nothing in common. Doug the main chacrter is an artist not a singer who lives double life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.137.235.166 (talk • contribs) 16:43, 12 July 2007
Original Doug
I am of the opinion that the original Doug was superior to Disney's Doug. Anyone else?
Yeah and my freind as well.
I LOVED the original Doug. I only saw half of an episode of Disney's Doug because it was so completely boring.
The Disney Doug was OK. All my friends hate it though. But I agree, The disney doug could never match up to Nick's Doug. --Mr. Comedian 12:14, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
I originally posted this comment a year or so ago, and I believe with the 3 that have voiced their opinions as well, the comment on the higher quality of the original Doug should be inserted into the article, please rebuke now if you have a problem with this
"Criticism" section useless?
I removed the "Criticism" section of this article as it added nothing to the article and it was opinionated.
it originally was
"Many fans have felt that the Disney version was not as good. Many fans of the original Doug hated the new one. Others thought the new one was okay, but not as good as the original. But many newer kids liked the Disney one better mainly because through generations, kids change thier intrest in many things."
This was not only very poorly worded, but it seems to contain original research and useless opinion.
Anyone disagree? (Wateriestfire 20:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC))
Remove Vandalism
Apparently this article has serious vandalism issues. I just removed a couple of paragraphs of vandalism, and by looking at some of the other comments and edits, this is a common occurrence. The name of the show isn't "Doug Funnie." It's just "Doug."
The fact that "Doug" is a show shouldn't entitle Disney to monopolize the name for a page. How about having this page titled "Doug: Television Show" or something so that other content can be used for the name?64.140.216.30 19:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Addition Error: Episode Count
The episode count does not add up to the episodes listed. 117 (98 11-minute episodes, 67 22-minute episodes, and 1 theatrical feature-length film) 98+67= 165 not 117. A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!
I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters.
This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:39, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I miss this show
This show doesn't air anywhere anymore. It used to air everywhere. Starting on Nick in '91, bought by Disney and aired on ABC in '96. Also aired on Noggin, Nicktoons, UPN, The WB, Disney, Toon Disney. This show used to be so popular and now it's gone. I am almost exactly 2 years younger than this show. I remember watching it on Nick my whole life untill I lost cable, I also remember watching it on ABC's One Saturday Morning. I remember it being on UPN and The WB on weekdays. I remember my rich friend who had like 2,000,000 channels. I used to watch it over his house on Toon Disney and Noggin. Now I have cable again. Funny thing. The last channel it was on was Nicktoons. It ended there in late '05. I get cable back in early '07. So freakin' close. I just miss this show so badly. Anyone else? --Mr. Comedian 23:21, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Emmy-winning?
The opening statement of the article seems to be entirely false. "Doug is an Emmy-winning American animated sitcom..." with references at the bottom to the 1999 and 2000 Emmy awards pages on IMDB. Though the links are dead, if you manage to navigate to the results, it shows 1999's award for utstanding Children's Animated Program going to "Arthur" and 2000's award of the same title going to "Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain" with "(Brand Spanking New) Doug" only receiving nominations. Looking over the results for the previous years it had aired (both incarnations), I didn't see a single Emmy win. Am I missing something, or should the opening statement be changed to "Emmy-nominated"? And on a non-wiki-worthy note, I found it interesting that the show never even received a nomination until it was picked up by Disney, a move which many would consider the show's turn for the worse. 24.16.219.62 (talk) 07:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)RobD

Chalky was not a friend of Doug's
Nor was he one of the main characters. Bebe was closer to Doug than Chalky for goodness sakes. Chalky was just that cool guy you know in school who talks to you sometimes. Long story short I think that should be removed from the first paragraph of the "Doug: The Series" section.

Attention
I don't see why this article has the needing-attention template... it looks just fine to me... should we take that off?
Doug is one of the best cartoons made. It is a shame they don't make cartoons like this anymore.
- If it says it's in need of attention, but there is nothing here explaining why it needs it or who put up the tag, then it doesn't need attention. I'm taking the tag off. --Vyran 19:26, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Nickelodeon GAS plays classic shows, maybe they play Doug?
- Nickelodeon GAS is for classic game shows. They mostly play GUTS, Hidden Temple, Finders Keepers, and Get the Picture these days. Double Dare used to be on it, but all that's left is Double Dare 2000. Figure It Out is on the network. They have Nick Arcade, but it's not on at a good time.
It still airs on the Nicktoons channel in the UK.
- But not in the U.S. I haven't seen Doug in years. Michael 02:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Useless information?
At the end of the Disney's Doug section of the article it states "The creator of the show, Jim Jinkins, named the main character Doug after his godson, Doug Eckhardt.[citation needed]" not only does this statement cite no sources or references but it is completely irrelevant to the section it was placed in. I have not removed it (yet) but it needs to be moved, I placed it in the background section which is where I feel it belongs. Unless someone can actually prove this rather bold statement I also suggest we remove it soon. After all, Wikipedia is for facts only. Eatspie (talk) 03:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

DVD
When will Disney make the right decision and put Doug on dvd? Talk about making a few bucks! You couldnt keep the dvds on the shelf. People would be buying them left and right. A 2 or 3 disc set with all episodes, even the ones from Nickelodeon, would sell millions.
WAKE UP DISNEY AND SMELL THE MONEY!!!!
I think one of the issues preventing the sale of DVDs is that since Doug was on both Nick & Disney there will be a dispute over who owns the rights to sell this show.
Season 1 of the Nick version of Doug is available on iTunes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.59.15.156 (talk) 23:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Regarding the whole Doug on One Saturday Morning.
FYI, One Saturday Morning didn't begin until September 1997, So everyone please stop putting that Doug aired on One Saturday Morning from 1996-1999, because One Saturday Morning did NOT exsist untill September 1997. The first season of Disney's Doug aired from 1996-1997 Saurday Mornings on ABC, NOT on One Saturday Morning because it did NOT exsist until the second season of Disney's Doug which was from 1997-1998. So please stop saying that it aired on One Saturday Morning from 1996-1997. Beacuse one Saturday, again, did NOT exsist until September 1997. --Mr. Comedian (talk) 00:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Misleading Writing
"This, however, was not the case; Rugrats would go on to be the biggest hit of the three original Nicktoons, going on to have the longest run of any Nicktoon to date and still airing on the channel as of 2011, whereas Doug (in its Nickelodeon incarnation) had the shortest run of the three and is the only one of the three not airing in reruns on any of the Nickelodeon networks."
This sentence is misleading; it seems to suggest Doug was somehow not successful and/or a big hit. A little research in Google news archives indicates it regularly ranked among the Top 10 in ratings for children's shows on Cable, and Rugrats originally ended its run around the same time as Doug, only to have new episodes ordered when the ratings skyrocketed during the airing of reruns. Originally, there were no plans for new episodes of Rugrats once they'd completed their final season. Nickelodeon, at the time, had a 5 season limit for the shows, so they weren't planning on any of them having a 10+ year run of first-run episodes on the network. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.141.18 (talk) 08:30, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
