English dub

Since the series didn't air on U.S. television yet, maybe they can use the British dub instead, and show it on their own Cartoon Network. There would also be three episodes per 30-minute run, obviously. --Jonghyunchung 14:07, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

English and Irish broadcasting?

3rd strongest manga character?

According to the Kenshiro article, This link indicates Goku, Doraemon, and Kenshiro as the 3 strongest (Manga) characters. What exactly is it about Doraemon that makes him so powerful? Is it his boundless ability to make things come from the future? I don't remember this manga to be too violent, so I don't see how Doraemon could be a powerful entity. Doraemon as the "Anime Ambassador"

I'm not really into this, but I saw a news article about the Japanese Foreign Ministry granting the honorary position of anime ambassador to Doraemon. I think that could be useful in your article in showing his popularity and effect.

English publisher Viz Media (dropped)

Viz media did not publish the series is basically what it meant.

Long story: They decided not to publish it because it had some "crude" humour in it and probably the couple of times they made light of suicide also put them off. Basically, when a series is "dropped", it means that the person with the rights to it decides, for whatever reason, to not publish it. Junjoh (talk) 01:40, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Name Stylization

Why are katakana and hiragana mixed to spell "Doraemon" ? -- Mikeblas (talk) 05:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

The official story is apparently that Doraemon forgot katakana while writing his own name, however this native Japanese Youtuber believes that it is more likely a mixture of the word ドラ猫 meaning something like "streetcat" and えもん which is a common name component for example 五右衛門.

Chinese names

I would like to do what I can to help copy facts from the Chinese article. For now, I'd like to note here that a friend in China told me Doreamon is known by the Chinese names "哆啦A梦" (as the Chinese Wikipedia article is titled) and "小叮当" (a name I knew and my friend helped me write). I think these should be mentioned in this English Wikipedia article, because a search for either of those doesn't bring up the article. Pronunciation

I'm usually the last one to support turning Wikipedia into Wiktionary, but if there's an official position we should make it clear whether the English name sounds like it looks (door-ayy-mon→door-uh-mon) or whether it's four syllables as in Chinese and Japanese (do-rah-ayy-mon→door-uh-ayy-mon; i.e., Doraëmon).

I wouldn't delete the Japanese IPA itself but it probably should go to Wiktionary since anyone able to pronounce it correctly would be speaking Japanese and reading the Japanese Wiki rather than this article anyway. Better to just use a [[wikt: link for the Japanese text. — LlywelynII 03:30, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Sources

I have removed the multiple misused sources that were being used to support claims not stated in the sources themselves (WP:synthesis). The article is not improved by misusing sources when you have not been able to find better ones.

If a dub made in Hong Kong is being broadcast in the UK, you need a reliable source to state this. There are several sources talking about an English dub other than the Disney one, but none of these actually associates themselves with the UK broadcast. LUK hold EMEA rights to the series but they don't even list the English broadcast on their own website so thats even more reason why we need a proper source to say this. It's not enough to piece together the information by quoting a lot of sources unless the sources themselves actually state the claim clearly and are reliable. LUK has fragments of this dub uploaded on YouTube including a bumper at the end showing the air times on Boomerang and they used to have the air times on http://www.doraemon-world.com/en/ (a website owned by LUK). That seems enough prove to me.--84.80.118.44 (talk) 05:32, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Which still can't be used to say the dub is different (because comparing them is WP:OR) and Boomerang is the sort of channel that just repeats stuff endlessly so defining air times for different seasons and even the ending of a series is very difficult.
