Etymology edit
All records seem to indicate it was named after the Donner party not directly from the German word for thunder. The Donner family for whom the Donner party is named seem to be German and the name may have original come from a nickname (note the speculative may). However such discussions belong in an article on the family name. Erp (talk) 00:02, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
