No vehicles "marketed under Dongfeng brand" edit

I reverted a recent edit that stated "Imported models are not marketed under the Dongfeng brand." As no Peugeot or Citroën models, imported or domestically produced, are "marketed under Dongfeng brand", there's no need to draw a distinction that doesn't exist. But the reference explicitly states that imported Citroëns and Peugeots are sold through DPCA dealerships - so your continued reversal of this is not supported by the reference and is factually incorrect.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 16:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I see you have been blocked again, but have taken care to revamp the sentence so that it is both of some relevance and also is not factually incorrect.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 16:59, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Press Release or propaganda? edit

The source of this text appears to be a press release transcribed into Wikipedia with the historical inaccuracies airbrushed right in. Since any attempts to rectify are immediately reversed, it's not possible to fix duplicative and inaccurate sections. The most basic error is the fact that Citroën was selling vehicles in the Chinese market before Peugeot arrived, including to Shanghai hotels and taxi fleets. I see from the article history that this has been pointed out before to the powers that be already, and yet the error persists. In July 1985, while Peugeot was still signing contracts in Guangzou, Citroën took part in the first Chinese motor show in Shanghai. This was part of a large strategic expansion effort on the part of Citroën- the VW/Citroën battle was extensively covered by the western business press at the time (1983-4) and the contacts developed in then did pay off in 1990 - producing the partnership with the "Second Auto Works"/Dongfeng company that exists today. [1] The two brands were still operating independently in the 1980's. The tiny, failed CKD operation in Guangzou was not the precursor of anything, just a curious side note and cautionary tale of what not to do in China. The PSA press release has been carefully sculpted by their publicity flacks to rearrange history. Why Wikipedia chooses to parrot press releases uncritically - that's the mystery. 76.168.227.117 (talk) 03:00, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I encourage you to add to the page, as you seem quite knowledgeable about the topic! And that press release sure is oft-cited, but none of the facts its supports seem controversial. It's things like the name of the company, the number of production bases, and the release year and name of its first product. If there's anything I missed please point it out! The specific issue you have about Citroën selling vehicles in China before the arrival of Peugeot is not cited by that press release. Fleetham (talk) 03:22, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
