Talk:Divine Strake

"The test will not be visible from Las Vegas. Although it will not be visible, a mushroom cloud will be visible from Las Vegas." Can we make any sense of this? First it won't be visible, then it won't be visible again, then it will. Is it talking about the mushroom cloud (if there will be one), the light from the explosion or possibly the seismic effects? —Vanderdeckenξφ 12:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

There will most definitely be a mushroom cloud. Mushroom clouds are not endemic solely to nuclear explosions. They are common after any large-magnitude explosion. This is caused by the rush of air inward to the site of the explosion, and the air at ground zero rising. It's just more dramatic when you set off 20kt than 2 tons. :) The explosion itself will be much, much smaller. Nuclear mushroom clouds have risen sixty kilometers or more. See Tsar Bomba or Castle Bravo for an idea of the size of the cloud in comparison to the explosion. ... aa:talk 22:07, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I wonder if the mushroom cloud will be edible?...
Right. The explosion won't, but the cloud will definitely be visible. — Jaxad0127 15:27, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Strake?

edit

I wonder about the nomenclature "Divine Strake" - the first word sort of makes sense in 'heavenly vengeance' sort of way, but a strake is, in the way I use it, a single width of planking (whether scarfed or not) on a wooden boat that runs from stem to stern. The 'whisky strake' is the last one to go on a boat, hence the desire to fall down drunk.

Wouldn't "Divine Strike" be more like it? One wonders...but not for long.
