What is a "disburse blue dye"?

edit

There's no definition of the term, nor is there any explanation of what disperse means in the context of blue dyes. 99.42.189.145 (talk) 09:44, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

From the first sentence: "Disperse blue dyes are blue-colored disperse dyes." If you don't know what a Disperse dye is, then the linked article will tell you that a "Disperse dye is a category of synthetic dye intended for polyester and related hydrophobic fibers". If your question is closer to "Why do they call it a disperse dye instead of something like Very Good Plastic Dye™?" then I believe it's named after Dispersion (chemistry). Yes, that's my actual question. I'm more familiar with disperse as a verb and dispertion as a noun or adjective. Here disperse seems to be an adjective. If the term is from the field of dispersion chemistry, disperse blue could be a formal or trivial name from that field, in which case conventional word meanings might not apply. 99.42.189.145 (talk) 07:54, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the Wikipedia:Reliable sources do not appear to share our etymological curiosity, so I don't think we will be able to add any of this to the article. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:58, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
