Notability

edit

I have an issue with the notability of this article. Why does this person deserve an article on WP and the tens of thousands of others who have disappeared don't? Dr. Morbius (talk) 19:01, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Dr. Morbius: Because Disappeared did a segment on her disappearance, primarily. That gave her case national attention. Daniel Case (talk) 23:23, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Biography

WikiProject Biography's Scope covers articles about specific persons, like Tiffany Daniels. The articles also covers a long session about her background and employement. However, User:Daniel Case keeps deleting the WikiProject, claiming that the article covers an event. I find that this disputes the WikiProjects Scope. Dimadick (talk) 06:12, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I have taken so much time to respond ... I've had some other things keeping me busy.

You are correct that the scope of WP:WPBIO says that it is "not limited to biographies", but then you don't take into account the language that immediately follows: "It includes only articles about individual persons, not about an organization or group or association, unless a substantial section of the article is a biography of a person related to that organization or group." I do not see anything saying that articles about events in a person's life that have merited standalone articles also come under the scope of WPBIO. Especially when the person in question does not have enough notability to support a standalone

Indeed, I would note that Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is not included in WPBIO ... and both of them are independently notable.

The "long section" about her background and employment constitutes, by my calculation, less than 10% of the whole article by word count. That is hardly "substantial", even if that criterion were agreed to be applicable to articles about events primarily involving a person.

While it is primarily a notability guideline, I also read WP:BLP1E as excluding articles like this from WPBIO since it, along with WP:BIO1E, discourages the creation of biographies of individuals notable only for one event.

Lastly I think there's a more practical reason to avoid putting this in WPBIO. If we consider this a biography, any reliably sourced information about Ms. Daniels, or for that matter any other missing or killed person whose disappearance or death is sufficiently notable for us to have an article about, is potentially relevant to the article, no matter how irrelevant it may be to the article, nor how salacious it might be. By expressly saying it is not a biography, to which end we do not put it under WPBIO, we can limit the inclusion of such material to that relevant to the persons's death or disappearance and better protect their privacy and dignity.
