Should we really be listing every product Digium makes? I think this article needs to be trimed without the whole product listing.--BJ 15:39, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Advertisement and Merge Recommendation

This article needs a serious re-write. It is written like an advertisement, not an encyclopedic article. No citations or references. Comments like "Today, Digium is expanding rapidly" with no citation is unsupported and promotional. Since Asterisk is the primary project that is supported by this company, I'm not sure it would deserve an article by itself. Perhaps this should be merged with that article Asterisk (PBX). Comments? Digium is expanding rapidly at this time I will try to find some references in articles to this. Digium in the past quarter has acquired at least 2 different companies as well as opened a much larger facility for their headquarters in Huntsville. --Silik0nJesus 00:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Page revived

This page is horrible (not sure if my edit helped it any but I did remove some of the spammyness) but merging a companies page into their product is a really bad idea, even more so for merging a product into a protocol. I merged the old IAXy page here and redirect and removed much of the marketing babble. I'm going to work on the page more and help writing prose (I'm very bad it) and finding sources would be appreciated. If you think this page should be deleted please prod it or put it up for AfD but please don't merge it to Asterisk. BJ^Talk 12:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

The section on the IAXy could probably now be removed, as it is no longer sold or supported. Probably the only interest in its continued placement is as an item of past curiosity. Corydon76 (talk) 23:55, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Nearly re-written

Merry Christmas, the article has been nearly re-written. Yes, Digium is my employer, but I hope you'll agree my additions were verifiable, neutral, and well-researched. My model for this work was the list of Wikipedia:Good_articles, with the aim of bringing this article one step closer to being worthy of inclusion. I did remove the IAXy because it's not representative of Digium's products, nor is it a current product. Haven't done much with the product section; I agree it should be a general summary of the products Digium manufactures rather than a comprehensive list. --Roderickm (talk) 06:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your contribution. However, the article still appears to be written like a press announcement and a company produced document rather than an encyclopedic article. Thank you also for being honest and identifying yourself as a company employee. It would be better for you to make suggestions here on the discussion page and let another unaffiliated editor change the article. You might want to refer to WP:COI. My contribution was the history section, which is thoroughly sourced, neutral, and factual. I'm familiar with WP:COI, and disclose my affiliation here and on my user page, in addition to cautiously editing with WP:NPOV. My models for this contribution were other company histories that are recognized as Wikipedia:Good_articles. This article languished for years without an unaffiliated editor improving the problems that you and other identified. Without a shade of defensiveness, I would genuinely like to know what portion of the history you find objectionable, and how it could be improved. Regarding the product section, it alone may be deserving of your COI and Advert tags. Once the product section is improved, I will ask that these tags be removed if no other specific problems are identified apart from my affiliation, which on its own is not controversial. --Roderickm (talk) 03:13, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Updating the Products and Services, Removing COI and Advert tags

I propose the following three updates:

1. Replace the entire "Products and services" section, which is out of date and may be cause for the Advert tag added in 2009.
2. Add minor updates to the "History" section"
3. Remove the COI and Advert tags if there is no objection to the article.

I suggest replacing the entire section with this brief overview of Digium product lines:

In addition to maintaining Asterisk as Free and open source software, Digium offers the following notable product lines:

• Switchvox, a proprietary unified communications server built upon Asterisk
• IP Phones designed to integrate easily with Asterisk and Switchvox
• Telephony interface cards that allow Asterisk servers to connect to digital or analog lines or stations
• Certified Asterisk, offering commercial support and licensing for a certified version of open source Asterisk.

I propose adding the following updates to the History section. Please consider the appropriateness of these updates in light of other examples of Good Articles.

Updates to History section

(appended to Skype for Asterisk mention:) Skype Limited retired Skype for Asterisk in May 2011. A lesser form of interoperability is possible using SIP to receive calls from, but not place calls to, Skype users. (ref: http://www.disruptivetelephony.com/2011/05/skype-issues-official-statement-about-the-end-of-skype-for-asterisk.html) In February 2012, Digium announced its own line of HD IP Phones. (ref: http://www.channelpartnersonline.com/blogs/peertopeer/2012/02/curds-and-the-digium-way.aspx) In April of the same year, Digium published Certified Asterisk, a branch of Asterisk that offers commercial support and proprietary licensing options.

Removal of COI and Advert tags

Finally, I propose removing the COI and Advert tags from the article. These tags were added after I contributed the History section in its current form. Please review the discussion earlier on this talk page for more details. I submit that my previous affiliation with Digium is the sole basis for the COI tag (I properly disclosed that I was then an employee), and the COI tag should thus be considered for removal if there is not an underlying problem with the neutrality or content of the article.
