Talk:Diamantina River ring feature

Lack of needed sources edit

This articles is sorely in need of independent secondary, reliable sources by people outside of Geoscience Australia. So far the best that I can find are:

I. sources that discuss the Diamantina River ring feature in detail:

Glikson, A., 2018. Structure and origin of Australian ring and dome features with reference to the search for asteroid impact events. Tectonophysics, 722, pp.175-196.

Glikson, A., Korsch, R.J. and Milligan, P., 2016. The Diamantina River ring feature, Winton region, western Queensland. Australian Journal of Earth Sciences, 63(5), pp.653-663.

Glikson, A.Y. and Pirajno, F., 2018. Ring and Dome Features, Possible and Probable Impact Structures. In Asteroids Impacts, Crustal Evolution and Related Mineral Systems with Special Reference to Australia (pp. 123-156). Springer, Cham.

II. Outside sources that discuss the Diamantina River ring feature in detail:

Rahman, Z.U., 2021. Remote sensing analysis of unnamed crater in Eastern Australia. Natural and Applied Sciences International Journal (NASIJ), 2(1), pp.1-11.

III. Outside sources that briefly mention the Diamantina River ring feature in passing:

Donchak, P.J.T. , 2021. Notes on the geological interpretation of deep seismic transect 14GA-CF1, including inferences from other associated regional datasets. Queensland Geological Record 2021/04.

Kennett, B.L.N. and Liang, S., 2021. The transition from the Thomson Orogen to the North Australian Craton from seismic data. Australian Journal of Earth Sciences, 68(5), pp.628-640.

These sources neither provide any solid evidence of this feature being related to an extraterrestrial impact nor convincing case for this feature being notable. Paul H. (talk) 04:01, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notable example of ring feature. edit

Despite my previous reservations about the notability of the Diamantina River ring feature, I would regard it as being notable because there exists published physical evidence indicating that it represents a significant buried geologic structure of unknown origin. Also, it is an unusually well-defined example of a ring feature / ring structure because of the course of the Diamantina River. Normally, other ring features / ring structures are more ambiguous because the criteria used to define them are more subjective and speculative in nature and lack the geophysical ground truthing. Therefore, I would keep this article unlike the case of the more speculative and seemingly imaginary Middle-Urals Ring Structure. Paul H. (talk) 15:27, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
