Talk:Development of stadiums in English football

Move/Deletion

edit

I know this article has been proposed for deletion, but might it be an idea to move the ground to 'Improvements at British football stadia', covering both historic developments as well as ongoing work. This topic surely deserves an article of its own, in some form or another. It should probably cover Britain as whole, rather than just England. 86.140.29.141 (talk) 02:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I like this article. If it is taken down it'll be like taking down the twin towers and wembley. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.106.196.206 (talk) 16:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Scottish Stadiums

edit

The Scottish stadiums need to be added to this list, or alternatively one of its own. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 11:21, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updates to specific clubs

edit

Ebbsfleet United

edit

Not a Wikipedia regular, so out of politeness I thought it was best to comment here. Ebbsfleet's name change preceeded the MyFC takeover, as did the investigations of a possible new stadium. There's also been a recent update from the development consultant in the local news (referenced) --128.16.12.204 (talk) 16:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have now removed this as the stadium was up for sale but bought on behalf of the club by Gravesham Borough Council, 2009. See Stonebridge Road. --128.16.12.204 (talk) 11:17, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Move

edit

I don't like how it says "in England", yet Cardiff and Swansea are in Wales, yet I can't think of a compromise. England just seems "wrong". Thoughts? Malpass93 (talk) 22:37, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Clubs where no improvements are envisaged

edit

Some editors apparently cannot bear to see a list without their favourite club included, and so a few entries on this list report no improvements and no plans to improve, or at most the vague possibility of improvement. I would be inclined to therefore remove the entries for Blackburn, Newcastle, Stoke, Crystal Palace, Norwich, Forest, QPR, Wolves, Leeds, and possibly others, but I'll open it to discussion first. Article title

edit

Apart from the mention above that the title is incorrect (stadia in Wales are included), it is also arguably POV (who is to say that the developments are for the better? Lots of people liked standing) and imprecise. Are we talking about "improvements" only since the Taylor report? Presumably Griffin Park has seen some development since it was opened in 1904. And what of relocation? Having been to Layer Road several times, I can understand the opinion that demolishing it is an improvement, but many would say that Cuckoo Farm was nicer as a field than as a stadium. Is Colchester's move an improvement to its stadium, rather than a change of stadium? I can see the rationale for the article, but at present it is far from encyclopaedic in its treatment of the subject. Kevin McE (talk) 11:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Exactly. My question above reiterates the point. It simply can't say "in England" when Wales is included too, yet "in England and Wales" wouldn't work either because then other Welsh clubs would have to be included. My solution is "Ground developments to football stadia in the English football league system". Malpass93 (talk) 16:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The current title is "Ground improvements to football stadia in England and Wales". Since it only includes Welsh clubs playing in the English league system, I'm moving the article as per Malpass93's suggestion. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

First since 1945?

edit

The claim in the introduction that there were no new grounds between 1945 and 1988 is wrong, as Roots Hall was opened in 1955. I'm not aware of any others. 86.177.234.84 (talk) 19:43, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Organisation of clubs into leagues

edit

We could save ourselves some work by organising this article into countries and alphabetical listing. That way we would not have to move clubs around every time they are promoted or relegated. Although facilities are related to this in that changed resources on relegation and promotion affect plans I don't think the relationship is an automatic one.
