The original text of this article is from User:W9kfb (contribs), who is the original author of the article as it appears at the source page. I moved it from its original home at General Motors to reduce the size of that article. Doesn't look like copyvio to me if the original author submitted it to Wikipedia. - (A) How can anyone verify that the person who submitted this to Wikipedia is also the original author of the content on the GM wiki?
- (B) The GM wiki seems to contradict itself about its copyright claims. This page states: "By posting content, you are granting GM a copyright license to utilize your content." This seems to imply that the actual copyright ownership remains with the contributor. However, another page asserts "Copyright © 2007 General Motors Corporation. All Rights Reserved. All text, images, graphics, animation, videos, music and other materials on this website are subject to the copyright and other intellectual property rights of General Motors Corporation, its subsidiaries, affiliates or licensors." This seems to imply that reusing the content, even if authorized by the original contributor, could be construed as an infringement by GM (or its bankruptcy estate). All in all, it seems unnecessarily risky to reuse their content. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 09:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'll take a stab at (A): The user's name on wikipedia, W9kfb, is a ham radio callsign. Looking it up on QRZ.com shows that it is Ronald W. Cox, the listed author for the article on the gmnext.com wiki.
- As for (B), you are correct, the copyright status seems unclear. Hopefully User:W9kfb can weigh in on this if he has any insider information. Polpo (talk) 17:09, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- The contributor who posted this content pointed out that I had overlooked its prior publication on Wikipedia. The gmnext article was not established until March 30, 2008, at which point it was copied from General Motors. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:26, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
