Talk:Designated landmark

I think the title should be "United States National Historic Landmark". I, who live outside USA, was confused by the title. I was thinking that this article is about Eiffel, Liberty, Golden Gate, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and so on 202.59.174.193 (talk) 00:03, 16 July 2009 (UTC) <using Opera Mini frm Indonesia>

It is not unusual for this US-centric writing to appear. I have therefore modified the lead paragraph to make it clearer that this article is specifically about the U.S. concept of designated landmarks. Astronaut (talk) 15:09, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

There is already is an article National Historic Landmark; I'm going to propose a merge. Also, the statement "the terms 'designated' and 'designation' have official meanings" isn't true. If you follow the citations, it's clear that "designated" and "designation" are just dictionary words like any other, and Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Proposed merger with National Historic Landmark
