Comment on "Issue" related to references and the use of the term deprescribing edit

I respectfully disagree with the statement that references do not contain the term deprescribing. A scan of the reference list reveals that four of the articles contain the term deprescribing in the title. It is also important to consider what the term deprescribing actually describes—the process of stopping, discontinuing or withdrawing medication. Deprescribing is a universal term for stoppage of the medication. As such, this article takes into account studies that may use alternate terms that fit under the blanket of deprescribing. Looking at the reference list with respect to the terms covered by deprescribing (withdraw, stop, discontinue) shows that the majority of articles fit within the concept of deprescribing.

The systematic review from Iyer et al, one of the largest and most important works on this topic, specifically states that the term deprescribing should be used to describe such trials as it unites the various terms used in the literature. Another significant systematic review done on the topic by Gnjidic et al in 2012 uses the term deprescribing in the title and throughout the paper."

Deprescribing edit

Deprescribing is a term used by pharmacists, the larger pharmaceutical community and their associations to describe the process of tapering off, withdrawing or stopping medications for a variety of purposes. For example, see this article published by Ontario Pharmacists Association.

Neutrality of the evidence base section edit

This section seems unduly weighted towards deprescribing, and claims that it is beneficial in all cases. --Therealelizacat (talk) 17:25, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Lede, definition, and relationship with medication discontinuation edit

The lede should clarify the relationship between deprescribing and medication discontinuation. Daask (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
