Pronunciation

I have a doubt about the pronunciation of the name Deolinda (while my European Portuguese is good, I am not a native speaker): is the L velarized or not? I.e., is it IPA: [diu'ɫĩdɐ] or IPA: [diu'lĩdɐ]? I tend towards the former, but a confirmation from a Portuguese person (with knowledge of IPA and phonology) would help. --GiovanniS (talk) 03:14, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

As a Portuguese myself, I can tell you that the pronunciation is IPA: [diu'lĩdɐ]. IPA: [ɫ] occurs only in the end of syllables. Joaopais 19:49, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

(Not) fado

False Intro

The intro of this article is full of errors.

First - Fado music do not dictate the use of a portuguese-guitar. Although the portuguese guitar is associated with fado, there are lots and lots of fado singers and fado songs that do not use it.

Second - It is said "... as inspired by fado, however it differs substantially from that traditional music genre", this is also wrong. The music Deolinda do is essencially fado inspired songs. Their music do not differ substatially from fado, its totally the opposite, their music is mainly inspired by it. They also mix traditional folk with it. Its on their personal biography, i don't know why people invent things.

Third - The intro reads "Also, their songs and lyrics are not serious and fatalistic like classic fados: instead, they largely use irony (often against fado itself) and a fast, happy pace." This is also wrong. Fados are not always fatalistic, there are very happy fados, most fados and the most traditional ones use irony as the main lyrics (Fado Castiço, Desgarradas, etc) and they are almost uptempo songs with a very fast pace rythm so this do not put Deolinda appart from fado music at all. Also Deolinda group do not mainly do fast pace songs, most are very soft and low pace ones. Also Deolinda group do not often do irony against fado, this is totally false (i would like to know who wrote such a thing). Their music speak about regular issues that fado music also speak. They speak about day-to-day life, they speak about neighbours and of course about love.

Fourth The intro says she doesn't usually dress in traditional fado dresses (like black dresses), that also false. The photo on the article and the way she dresses in videoclips like "Clandestino" or "Fado Toninho" is totally fado dresses with a shawl and everything. When they do not dress as fado singers they often dress in traditional clothes and colors like red and white linen. They always use lace cloths on the stage, more traditional than that is impossibe.

I think the person that wrote the intro of the article tried to much to separate this group from fado music. Its very hard to separate both since Deolinda uses Traditional portuguese music and clichés. Some of their songs are 100% fado songs and others are fado inspired songs with a modern twist. Deolinda do traditional music and they are influenced essentially by Fado. Tacv (talk) 20:52, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
