Demography

The percentages of the populations add up to more than 100%.

Sinhalese: 73% Sri Lankan Tamil: 18% Indian Tamil: 5% Moors and Malays: 7% This adds up to 103% and does not include the other minorities. I know that three is a problem with the sensus in Sri Lanka, but there has to be some way to clarify this. Academic Challenger 00:51, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

In the religion sub-section, it states Buddhism 73.7%, Hinduism 10.9%, Islam 7.6%,Christianity 6.2% Hindus have been underquoted. Sinhalese are 73.8%, but not all Sinhalese are Buddhist. I read elsewhere, Buddhism 70%, Hinduism 15%, which seems more realistic. Atif.hussain (talk) 00:29, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't add up, because somebody is busy manipulating facts and numbers. He/she is saying he/she is stating the CIA fact book, which is not true. Look at this: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ce.html

Sri Lankan Tamils are not 18% at present. At independence in 1948 Sri Lankan Tamils were about 8%. Half of the Tamil population has emigrated and therefore SL tamils in sri lanka can't be 18%. (I am of Tamil origin - if anybody thinks that is relevant). --SriSuren (talk) 18:07, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

I have clarified your addition to the article. The CIA Fact Book is very misleading because it relies on the 2001 census which was only carried put partially in the north and east. The Sri Lankan government estimates that the Tamils (both Sri Lankan and Indian) are about 18%.--obi2canibetalk contr 18:27, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Same links which says unpecified or unclassified as 10% which means 10 person Tamils are not calculated because of Sri Lankan War.--Jai Kumara Yesappa (talk) 16:26, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

"Smaller minorities"

Is there any data we could scrounge up on the minorities no one talks about? Even here, the Malays and the Burghers seem to be the only other minorities mentioned. I'm talking here about groups such as the Parsis, the Chetties, the Kaffirs, Sri Lankan Chinese, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.109.47.11 (talk) 14:30, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Arrive

Who arrived first? sinhales or tamils? Sinhales arrived from Bengalia or Maharashtra?--Kaiyr (talk) 08:19, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
