Sexuality

Homosexual acts (by either sex) are illegal and penalties include jail sentences. [1]

  • Women between 15 to 19 years of age who have had sex before the age of 15 stands at 48%.
  • Women between 20 to 24 years of age who have had sex before the age of 15 stands at 20%.
  • Men between 15 to 19 years of age who have had sex before the age of 15 stands at 70%.
  • Men between 20 to 24 years of age who have had sex before 15 remains at 20 percent

Some local girls are put up for "informal adoption" by their family members in order to pay off debts, and subsequently subjected to sexual servitude and forced labor as domestic servants.
Some girls are hired under the guise of domestic labor in logging and fishing areas, but subsequently coerced into commercial sex.[3][4]

September 2011, women living in Solomon Island slums, and found 64% of women aged between 15 and 49 in the country had been physically or sexually abused.[5]

  • 18-year-old woman spoke about being gang-raped by six men as she went to collect water in the afternoon.
