Section listing all of the national chapters that are currently established at collegiate schools. [1] Kkudlak114 (talk) 18:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Kkudlak114

Hi! I'm a DG and I'm so happy to see you guys working on the page! I've been thinking for a while that it needs to be improved! I saw your plans below and that all looks good! I would add more information about Notable Chapters too. 12cbayly — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12cbayly (talkcontribs) 18:51, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

What does the information in (parenthesis) means after each name? E.g. "Paige Adams-Geller (Alpha Nu)" What dies "Alpha Nu" means here? It is unclear from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.175.3.10 (talk) 19:11, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Feedback from Prof. Leshed to students working on the article

Based on the proposal, it looks that there is a lot of information that you can add to this article. This is great. Here are some points to pay attention to:

  • Follow Wikipedia's guidelines. For example, you posted your proposal at the top of the talk page instead of creating a new section. As another example, external links should appear as links and not as a full URL in the text.
  • The proposal is unstructured and hard to read/follow. If you're using a numbered list, make a real numbered list instead of putting numbers one after the other in one long line - this makes it more difficult to read.
  • The delta gamma website, the Cornell delta gamma website, and the delta gamma magazine website cannot be a reference that you use because they are not neutral and they are not secondary sources. It would be too much promotional if you use these sites as references. They can be external links though (articles can have at the bottom a list of external links). Instead you need to find sources that are not affiliated with delta gamma as references for the article.
  • There are missing links to your user pages in the proposal.

Happy editing! LeshedInstructor (talk) 20:31, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Feedback from Jared Kass: Hey Guys, Gilly pretty much hit the nail on the head as to what changes you'll need to make here. First off make a new section for your proposal and move all your information into it. If you guys need any help please let me know. Again, follow all the suggestions Gilly made above. Finally, I saw that you plan on uploading images. This can be quite tricky due to copyright, and you should get started on contacting owners of the images right away. The guidelines for uploading images can be found in the Wikipedia:Uploading images article. Post any questions or comments you have on my talk page and I'll get back to you right away. Course assignment

Hi Cornell folks working on this article. I see that there is still no progress on the article page. Please contact me as soon as possible or start filling in your contributions - the assignment is due on Thursday. LeshedInstructor (talk) 13:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

The section of this page that will reference the List of Chapters will be taken from the Delta Gamma website directly www.deltagamma.org We believe that no bias should be of concern here since we are just listing names. Other sorority pages have done this as well and we believe it also presents no problem. Kappa Alpha Theta Alpha Phi Kappa Kappa Gamma. In many sections that are targeted at just presenting general information and are not created with any one's specific interest at mind, these pages use the National website of the organization as a reference. In following with their edits, we too, will use the Delta Gamma National website when it is applicable to just rely information that is unbiased and purely factual. Hello, I am a member of Delta Gamma and it has bothered me for awhile that the crest on the Wikipedia DG page is not true to our official crest. Can someone replace it the official crest that does not have suck neon colors?

Please replace the crest with the official DG crest.

Untitled

This article should start off with some sort of description of what Delta Gamma IS... although it appears to be a sorority or fraternity, this is not immediately apparent to anyone unfamiliar with the subject matter. Entropic 22:22, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Fraternity/sorority

This article needs a few more explanatory words in a some of the opening sentences to make the men/women/fraternity/sorority stuff comprehensible for those not familiar with this US tradition. For example, first we read: "one of the oldest and largest women's fraternities in the United States" which immediately sounds odd as one would expect a fraternity to be a men's organization. Then shortly afterwards it says "Delta Gamma (ΔΓ) is a college fraternity, although more often referred to as a sorority..." which makes absolutely no sense at all to me. Is it women only, or is it mixed? If it's women only then why is it a "fraternity"? If it's mixed then why is it "more often referred to as a sorority"?

Most "sororities" are not sororities but Womens' Fraternities. Many of these organizations were founded BEFORE the word sorority was even coined-hence the use of womens' fraternity as the name. Some of these groups changed their name to sorority later, but many decided not to. That is why some of them are "womens' fraternities" and some are "sororities" although all are referred to as a sorority in common conversation. --eelmonkey (talk) [Undated comment]

MANY NPC members are sororities to this day. The page stated that only 1 member of the NPC (A Delta Pi) was still a sorority, which is false. If anyone is confused by the sorority/fraternity thing, they should start by reading about the National Panhellenic Conference entry. [Anonymous comment]
Hi! A member of Delta Gamma here:
Technically DG is a fraternity. In the Greek language, the word fraternity meant (roughly) an assembly of PEOPLE with common interests (with no specification of gender). It is only in the Roman language that the word fraternity has the male gender (and obviously it is a Greek organization). Thanks! -kmt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.207.236.11 (talk) 19:46, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
As a classics major: The term "frater" is in fact Latin meaning "brother." However, many "women's fraternities" use the Greek word "phratria" meaning "people who hold a common interest" as their root. So the post claiming the root of "fraternity" to mean "people" is correct.
To explain about why Delta Gamma is a fraternity, not a sorority (it had one male member, George Banta), [consider] add[ing] a small paragraph about George Banta.
"George Banta and his Delta Gamma fiancée, Lillian Vawter were married in 1882. Lillian died in 1885, leaving a young son, Mark. Brother Banta moved to Menasha, Wisconsin, where he later married Ellen Lee Plesants. Two children were born to this union: George Jr. and Eleanor Banta." "Eleanor became a member of Delta Gamma." "Delta Gamma paid special tribute to Brother Banta when the Delta Gamma Foundation established the George Banta Memorial Fellowship for 1957-58." --from Miller's Meanderings Volume #1 - Kkudlak114 (talk) 17:41, 1 October 2013
