Tried by the French courts?

I don't have time to research it myself, but I am curious about this detail. It seems to me that in the hijacking the group committed no crimes on French soil, so how could they be tried in France? Was it for other crimes? What were their sentences, and are any still in prison? Was extradition sought by the US (and if there were capital crimes involved this could answer part of the question)? --Dhartung | Talk 06:55, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

The four hijackers were Black Panthers/affiliated with the Black Liberation Army who had fled to Algiers in 1971 during a time when radicals and dissidents were being hunted down, jailed, exiled and murdered through COINTELPRO (Counter Intelligence Program) and J.Edgar Hoover. Passenger Tanzi Cordin

This is probably not notable enough to be included in the article: Tanzi Cordin from Oak Harbor, aged 6 at the time, was among the passengers; only one year later she survived the plane crash of Ozark Air Lines Flight 809 in which her sister and her mother perished.
