As phrased at present, the article doesn't make it clear that a Professor in a British university was (still is?) more the equivalent of the chair in the North American system only with more authority, not simply a person who teaches there (see the source: "was given a personal chair"). To clarify this, may I suggest changing the sentence to something like "was the first woman to hold a chair . . . ". Awien (talk) 11:05, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • The article already has "In 1973, she became a professor, the first woman to hold a chair in Glasgow University's 500-year history." If you're wanting more, you might try an edit to show the context of your suggestion. Andrew Davidson (talk) 14:04, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
